Date Made: September 2001
Time to make: One week
Cost: $40
Worn to: Excalibur: Comic and Video Rental (Costume Conest); A-kon 2002
This costume was right after I had watched Escaflowne: the Movie (without watching the series). I really liked the movie and like the dramatic feel of it....even if the ending was a bit of a dissapointment. When I was thinking about starting a new project, my aunt (who is an excellent seamstres) offered to do my costume after seeing my previous costume and commenting that I could have asked her to make it for me.
I got the light blue cotton for the skirt, white heavy cotton for the blouse, a rayon/polyester blend navy blue for the tie, and some simple 1/4" white ribbon for the lines of the sailor fuku. It was a rather fast build considering that my aunt had made many sailor fuku in the past due to her sewing in China. And so in about a week, she was finished with my costume. Which I was very excited about. It fit perfectly and I was very happy about a well made costume for a small price unlike last time.
I made this first for a costume contest that was being held at my local anime rental store for a Halloween costume contest. Unfortunately, no one had seen Escaflowne: the Movie and I didn't have a very flashy costume. -_-;; So I lost to a guy with great big bishi wings and a cool flowing black trench coat. ^^;; I went to A-kon 2002 also finding that there were many many people who had seen Escaflowne: the Movie...and there were an abuncance of Hitomi s in the crowd...^^;; Also they had wigs and her pendant and some had a Vaan to accompany them...so...I was left in the cold...again..lol.
I really liked the feel of the costume and how comfortable it was, however, I was thinking that I would probably like a flashier costume next time because I didn't get the cosplayer's high by only wearing a sailor fuku...I sold this costume on Ebay for the amount it took to buy the material. It was a good experience with my first sailor fuku. ^^
