Slave Route 1

False Bay Coastline

The Cape represents one of the few places in Africa where slaves from East Asia were imported to.  Our half-day tour starts in the old part of Cape Town at the site where thousands of slaves were once auctioned off.   Visit the Bo-Kaap Museum and witness many slave and Malay cultural relics.  The visit to the museum is followed by a tour of discovery through terrain that hides many ancient shrines.  Discover the harsh but quiet history of torture of slaves in seaside Simons Town and hear stories of triumph in the face of adversity.

At Kalk Bay, the Cape’s unique snoek fish, is prepared for the visitor the way it’s been done since slave days.

The Slave Route tour can be combined with a ferry ride* to Robben Island, where slaves, political activists and Muslim religious leaders opposing colonial rule were imprisoned throughout the centuries.  The Robben Island trip may also be substituted for a visit to the V&A Waterfront, Canal Walk or Cable car ride up Table Mountain.

Included in the price are snacks, tea, lunch, and all fees.
