The Royal Palm Reserve is about 300 acres of swamp forest and wetlands featuriung the Majestic Swamp Royal Palms that are endemic to this part of Jamaica. NEPT manages this site as an Eco-Tourism Attraction and Research/Education Center.
It was in 1983 that a handfull of concerned citizens formalized their efforts to preserve the envioment with the formation of the Negril Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber continued to monitor the envionment, undertaking coastal water5 quality test, highlighting issues relating to the Great Morass, cleaning of the Beach and road verges and lobbying for sustainable developement.
Later the Establishment of the negril Coral reef Preservation Society (NCRPS) in 1990 and the Negril Envionmental Protection Trust (NEPT) in 1994 has enabled the consistent focus on the protection and preservation of the envionment.
