Melbourne's Restaurants

About 1/3 of Melbourne's restaurants are not licensed to sell alcohol but may serve alcohol you brought elsewhere. Look for the B.Y.O. Signs (Bring Your Own).

Seeing The Melbourne Attractions

The best way to see all of the inner city attractions is to take a trip on the free city circle tram. It stops within walking distance of all the major city attractions.

Point Lonsdale Beach, Bellarine Peninsula

The best time to visit the Point Lonsdale beach, at the base of Point Lonsdale light house is at low tide, when all the rock is exposed. This leaves many exciting rock pools to explore and is much safer because it eliminates the chances of falling into unseen holes. Great photographs of the lighthouse can be taken, by taking a photo of the lighthouse in the background, with a rock pool in the foreground, with the lighthouses reflection, though this usually only works on still days.

Steam Train Tours

I recently went on a steam train tour to Warrnambool for a day. It was a great day out, and this service is run by West Coast Railways. The train departs from Spencer Street at about 8am and travels to Warrnambool where it reaches at about noon. A cut lunch is provided on the train. Once at Warrnambool you get on a tour bus which takes you to see the whales at Logan's beach, Cannon Hill, Tower Hill, lake Pertrobe and Flag Staff Hill. Your coach in the afternoon takes you back to the steam train, which you travel back to Melbourne on, with a roast dinner, arriving back at Melbourne after 8pm. A great full day out. Please note that the bus tour price is seperate from the train travel price. for details see the West Coast Rail Site's day tours section at www.wcr.com.au.
