Victoria has a large public transport network that consists trains, buses and Melbourne's world famous trams. The public Transport system uses a electronic ticket system called 'MetCard'. these work similar to credit cards, and must be placed in a machine to be checked. You can purchase Met Cards from many newsagents and outlets around the state, as well as on the transport itself. The area that public transport covers is broken up into 3 "Zones" each and you must buy a ticket for the appropriate zone or zones that you are going to use, each zone has different ticket prices. Tickets are available in a number of options such as 2 hour tickets, daily tickets, weekly tickets, monthly tickets and yearly tickets. The most commonly used, particularly for tourist, are the daily and 2 hour tickets.
In the city a free tourist tram also operates. This is called the city circle.
