The article that I read is about the U.S. Coaliton troops raided an Iraqi wedding party and killed at least 40 people. According to the Iraqi Governing Counsel, the attack, which took place about 2:45 am in a remote desert area near the border of Syria and Jordan , is devastating. Among those who were killed, there were 15 children and 10 women. The U.S military officials announced later that it couldn't confirm the raid and is investigating the issue.
As the U.S. is sinking deeper and deeper into the Iraqi conflict, the public's opinion towards one is turning to unfavorable. I too am very concerned about the ongoing conflict in Iraq and the U.S. involvement in that conflict. I think that the Bush Administration is not doing the right thing in Iraq . It is making Iraq to be a second Vietnam .
First of all, the U.S. economy is in a deep recession. The economy, according to the FED, has been in a sustained period of zero- or negative-growth. This sustained period of economical depression resulted many losses of jobs and a very high unemployment rate. Instead of focusing on how to boost the economy back to what it used to be, the Bush Administration continued to spend excessively. This excessive government expenditure created a huge federal budget deficit, which cannot be fully eliminated within years. This put the U.S. in an even worse situation. The excessive spending discouraged the investments from the private sectors of the economy and thus, made the economy appear to be sloppy and languid. Therefore, I think that the Bush Administration, in order to make the American people live a better life, at he promised in 2000, has to stop the ongoing war and use the government money in a wiser way by pouring the money into the domestic economy.
Second of all, the involvement of the U.S. in Iraq is not purely idealistic. The liberation of Iraqi people and democratization of the mid-east are just propaganda used by the U.S. government to manipulate the public's opinion. However, the public is not easily deceived and has a sense of justice. The recent discovery of the prisoner abuse in Iraq showed that the U.S. troops are not as good as we thought they were. Many of the soldiers abused the prisoner. This is against the founding principals of our nation and our ideology. The prisoner abuse scandal not only upset the U.S. public but also ignited wide-spread anti-American sentiment around the globe, particularly in the Arab world. Recent trends have shown that many Arab nations are now starting to stand together and form alliances in order to resist American influences.
Lastly, the U.S. conflict with Iraq is not to help the Iraqi people but to exploit its natural resources. The Bush Administration has been long looking for an oil producing nation in the mid-east in order to reduce the U.S. dependence on the Saudi Arabian oil. Iraq fell into the category, and under the command of big oil firms, President Bush started the Iraqi war of the so-called democracy. It was not the will of the Americans to fight the war. Therefore, it is not right.
In conclusion, I just want to express my concerns with the ongoing struggle in Iraq . In a critical time like this, we have to make wise decision so we can always stand on top of the world and not fall apart. We need to stop the wrongdoings of the government and together make America a better place.
