THE TOWNSEND FAMILY
OF WATAUGA COUNTY, N.C.
The Watauga Townsend family consist of three major branches,  I have titled the three different trees below  as Andrew Jackson, William Lewis and Jacob  these were the settlers of the Valle Crucis area.. Andrew and Lewis were brothers. They had a sister Sarah, who married Henry Orndt (Arnett), and another sister Mary who married Samuel Lusk.  They  were the children of James Townsend.  James was  the son of William (born abt 1750) . William was the son of Henry  born about 1732.
Jacob  was the brother of James . He was the father of Peter, Mary,  Henry and James Dudley.  In as far as humanly possible, all information presented here has been authenticated by census reports, birth or death records and/or personal accounts by family members. Many of the names listed here were hard to research due to the amount of Townsends who used their middle names. The hand written census reports were in some instances almost impossible to read and for some reason, many Townsends used different dates of birth and middle initials during different years reported. This has caused many of us to believe that there were two people when actually there was only one. If I made any mistakes here please forgive me, I have tried to produce a true representation of our wonderful family.
Note: I have recently placed a number in front of each name  designating the generation of that person.
If there is a number after the name it is which wife mothered that child.
