This page represents the period of prosperity in Dutton. One example of this: we got a major improvement on our Main Street. We had it oiled, graveled, and paved in 1947. The first Catholic Church was moved when the new church was built in 1942, and it is used as a storage building for the Farmer's Merc. The Drive In was started by the Cascadens in the 1950's. They sold it to Martin Olsen in 1961 and operated it until 1974, when the Andersons bought it titling Nat's Cafe. The Texaco was started in 1957-58 by Al Van Heel. He then sold it to Gary Johnson and it is now ran by Ed Vande Kop. P. A. Peterson built an elevator in Dutton for his own private use. He sold it to the Dutton Co-op in 1971. 1955 saw to the purchasing of a new school site north of town, where a new, and present used, junior and high school was constucted. The elementary grades moved into the old high school. Plans had been made for a possible grade school addition on to the high school. These plans became a reality in 1971 when the Dutton Grade School was added to the west end of the high school. The Dutton Catholic Church became a parish in 1962. The pastor resides in the rectory in Dutton serving both parishes of St. William's Catholic Church in Dutton, and Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Power. |
