John listened to the grumbling of Kavanagh behind him and refrained from turning around and shooting the man. He really didn't want to have to force Carson perform mouth-to-mouth on Penn Gillette's evil and less talented twin. But the implication that John was sleeping with Radek Zelenka, and that was why Zelenka wasn't here at the mandatory weapons and target training Weir had insisted John institute, was just too much for him to deal with. Especially considering that Zelenka, although he was a nice guy with a wicked sense of humor, wasn't John's type. And John's lover would have John's balls on a platter if he cheated.
The doors to the makeshift firing range opened, and Zelenka walked in with Rodney McKay (also excused because he got way too much field practice), looking confused.
"You sent for me, Major?" Zelenka asked.
"Yeah," John drawled. "There's been some curiosity as to why you were excused from the training. I was hoping you would demonstrate to everyone exactly why you were excused."
John saw Kavanagh turn more shades of red than he'd thought humanly possible. Zelenka merely shrugged and held out his hand, pushing up his glasses with the other. John handed over his 9mm and stood back, watching.
Zelenka moved over to the table in front of the range and started field stripping the gun. He checked all the parts and reassembled it perfectly, slipping the magazine in last. Picking up the gun, Zelenka took aim at each of the targets that had been set up. When the last echo of gunfire had cleared, everyone in the room could see that he'd hit the bulls eye on each one.
Zelenka handed the gun back to John. "I still prefer the CZ-85 I had in the Czech Army, but the SGC would not let me bring one, even as a personal item." He shrugged. "Anything else?"
"No, but thank you, Dr. Zelenka."
The Czech nodded and left the room. John turned to the assembled scientists. "I trust that answers any questions about Dr. Zelenka being excused? Good."
Rodney smirked at Kavanagh before leaving. John shook his head as he walked over to clear the targets. Honestly, like John would let anyone who wasn't qualified out of this training. Especially not his lover - he was going to make sure Carson could defend himself no matter what happened
