My springs were rusted and since rust between leaves create additionnal friction and make suspension move less freely, I decided to disassemble the spring packs and paint them.
I washed each leaf with water and soap to remove oil and grease, then I wire brushed each leaf to remove loose rust (don't remove all the rust, it's needed so the paint can stick). Then I used POR 15 "Metal Ready" to prepare the leaves. It's a kind of acid cleaner. After washing, and drying 24 hours, I painted them using a regular paint brush. To my surprise it covers very well. I ordered a pint and I used less than the half of it to paint a total of 8 leaves with two coats. The finish is very hard and glossy. Looks like a plastic coating.
