I am a owner of a 1997 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 Extra Cab. I also own a 1994 Toyota 2 Wheel Drive Truck with 150,000 on it. It runs like New. A 3 Year old Boxer dog named Tacoma, And all names i use online are toyota names. I am a BIG toyota person and Supporter. So i am not here to really down Toyota. But The page here is to show what has happened to the 1997 Toyota Tacoma. The truck has 125,000 miles on it, the warranty is off which i understand. At normal driving the truck begins to make very loud noises. In a matter of seconds the engine cut off and would not crank again or turn over. There was no notice or anything that this was gonna happen. After towed home, took into the garage and instpected. While standing in the pit i seen traces of oil along the frame and motor block. Looking a little harder i seen a piece laying behind the starter. When knocked out from behind the starter and got in my hand i seen it was a rod bearing cap. There was no hole to be found though. So i removed the starter and there was the hole. So then the motor was completely removed from the truck. After Removed, mounted on a motor stand, and intake and heads removed. The oil pan was then removed and many pieces was found laying in the bottom of the pan. Upon instpection of the pieces, was parts of the bearing cap, and parts of the piston rods that had also been broken. All the bearings in the engine stilled looked like new, well except the 2 that was mangled up from the broken bearing cap. All other bearings are still gray looking with no wear on them what so ever. The crank also looks new as well as the cylender walls. The 2 bearings that are mangeld up besides being all bent are gray with no visable WEAR on them. Now any mechanic should know that neglect on the motor like as oil not being changed would cause the bearings to become hot and wear. Result in usally being a copper color. Therefor the only reason i can see that the engine has done this is the bolt breaking and causeing it to become weak. now the pic of the bolt to our right. shows the bolt still in the bearing cap, where it is bent and stuck there. The bolt at the break is black from oil stain. Which to me would mean that it has been broke for a while. A fresh break would be silver colored. The broke DEFECTIVE bolt was the cause of all this damage. I have contacted TOYOTA at 1-800-GO-TOYOTA and at the claims office 1-800-331-4331. ALso the nearest local dealership. they for the last serval days have ran me back and forth to each other, saying it was up to the other to help me. Well the person i need to speak with is a Regional Service Manager. That Neither the 1-800 number or the dealership is allowed to give out his office number to reach him. They are saying they will notify him after he comes back to the dealership with in the next two months. I am only asking for a person wiht autority to look at my case and motor and make a decision on what he thinks. Anybody with mechaincal experince can see the problem that caused this. Hell a fool can see it. I dont believe i should have to let the truck sit for up to two months just to have someone to look at it. If they wanted they could contact the person to have him come out as soon as he was in the area. |
