Hi,

I have one of the early E35's-- the "Alberg" boat. Attached are copies of some E32 ads--the Scorpion, I guess. They were sent to me by an engineer that worked at Ericson from 1983 to 1990. I was searching for info on the original E35, but he sent me these as well.

The first one--"Rumors"--is from June 1965 Windward magazine.

The second--"shows CLASS"--is from July 1966 Windward magazine.

The third--"Have You Heard"--is from July 1965 Windward magazine.

The gent who sent these to me was Roger Brown.

I am answering your call for other 5.5 meter Ericsons. It is my understanding from Ericson (in 1990) that 28 boats [note: 24 boats according to Ericson's hull number schedule] were built and that there were no records remaining. Here are the stats on my boat:

Length    32'3"
Beam    6' 3"
Draft    4'6"
Hull #    4
Yr. Built     1965 (1967 according to Ericson's hull number schedule)
Name    Greel
Port    Ventura, CA

It was called the "Scorpion 32" and is configured very closely to the Columbia Sabre 5.5. I think the Ericson is a much prettier boat. I have seen two other of these boats, both in Marina del Rey.  Neither are there now. I had heard that one had moved to Morro Bay CA. I do have a copy of a full page Ericson ad from an edition of Yachting.

Since the production was so limited, what do you think of limiting your call to two boats in order to ad them to the web site?

I have contacted the other reply you have posted.

Thanks for the web site and your interest!

John McCauley

Hi,

You responded on June 22nd to a messsage we posted on the Pacific Seacraft/Ericson web site re our Ericson 32 5.5 meter sloop. Thank you very much. Walt is the sailor (I'm still learning), I'm the computer person. I told Walt about your reply and your Ericson. Yours is not the same boat as ours, which is a 5.5 meter type, built in 67. It is a day cruiser/racing boat. Not sure of the beam but less than 10 feet. It is a stilleto...

I can't get Walt pinned down long enough to look at your site, which is very good and very informative. I'm still looking for information about our Ericson model, which must have been a very limited production model. Do you have any ideas about where we could go for more info? Do you know anyone who might know someone who knows someone who knows something?! We don't have a decent picture of our Ericson but everyone who sees her says she's beautiful.

We were starting to race her in some beercan yacht club races this summer out of Oceanside YC in the spinnaker class, but the wind at 6 pm in Oceanside is non existent and she just can't compete with the ultra lights except on paper, and who wants to race on paper.

We're also looking for a 150 jenny because all we have for her is a too small jib.

Anyway, thanks for your reply, great website, please let us know if you have any leads for us. We'll also keep checking you site and Ericson site for any new info.

Happy sailing!

Lyn and Walt
