1963 THUNDERBIRD SPORTS ROADSTER
Complete Rotisserie Restoration
in progress now

February 23,
All the paint is finally gone, including any residue left over from
the aircraft stripper. I only have a little more sanding to do on the
tonneau cover which I'll do by hand. I used a DA sander with 80 grit
paper to clean up all the steel parts. Note that I completely
stripped and sanded the undersides of the parts too.
There were a couple spots on the replacement quarters where
some surface rust formed under some loose old paint. I used a
"spot blaster" with glass beads to remove all of the rust.
The shiny looking spots on the quarters are where that occured.
The metal all looks so nice and clean and shiny now I'd like to
just finish it and clear coat it. It would look like the Stainless
'60 bird that Ford built at the end of production of '60's.
But I guess I better paint it.
Tomorrow I'm going to rustproof all of the hidden areas in
the body shell and inside the doors, flip lid, package tray,
hood and deck lid. Then I'll begin the filler work to flatten
out the minor dents and dings on all the panels.

Saturday, Feb. 26...
I didn't have enough rust proofing chemical, so I had to order it, and
in the meantime I started the filler work.
Today I took a break from that and re-lined the division bar weather strips.
That's the window channel at the front of the door windows with
the black fuzzy stuff inside it that's usually all worn out
and makes your windows rattle 'til it drives you nuts.
Heres the link to that repair:
