1963 THUNDERBIRD SPORTS ROADSTER
Complete Rotisserie Restoration
in progress now

May 12,
Color Sanding and buffing is about 95% complete, I just have to do the final
glaze but I'll wait until the car is together. I'm bound to put a couple
nicks in it here and there during the assembly that I'll have to touch up,
so I'll do the final glaze after all the nicks are fixed.
The basic tools you need for color sanding are shown on the hood, also shown
is an example of the areas that should be taped before starting.
It's always exciting to put the emblems back on the new paint.
The Tonneau cover is 100% complete and is stored in the house to keep it
safe until it goes back on the car. I also put the hood and deck lid in the
house for safe keeping. You can see them behind the tonneau.
I'm going to put the dash back in before I put the car back on the floor because
I can work "under" it while standing up! With the car on it's side on the
rotisserie it's pretty easy to work under the dash, otherwise as we all know,
you have to be some kinda acrobat to do anything under there.
Anyway I dug out the heater and will tear it completely apart and clean it up
and if necessary replace any rotted gasket inside.
I'll show you what I mean in the next update.
I took the gauges all apart and cleaned out the dust on the inside,
and polished up the chrome on the outside.
Since this car is coming back in a few weeks as a "new" car,
I returned the odometer to "00000.0". It shows 1 mile now because I
ran it up to 1 mile with a drill just to make sure it was set right.
For the record, the odometer showed 93984 before I reset it.
