1963 THUNDERBIRD SPORTS ROADSTER
Complete Rotisserie Restoration
in progress now
November 8, 2004 update:
As you can see in the pictures, the rear suspension is all out
the rotisserie is attached and the cleanup now begins.
I've got a few parts to remove yet, the front suspension namely.
That'll be done today and then I'll start scraping off all the old
undercoating on the bottom of the car and all of the old seam
sealer all over the car. I have a "tent" that I'll erect over the car
to contain the mess from sandblasting, rustproofing and later priming of the parts.
It's exhausted to outside with an exhaust fan to keep the dust
out of the air for visibility. I wear an old rain suit, a paint respirator
and a sandblasting hood and gloves while sandblasting.
Everything that can get sandblasted safely will,
including the edges and inner structure
of the doors, the bottom edges and webbing of the deck lid, hood,
package tray and flip lid and the edges of the fenders.
Then as long as I have the tent up, and the sand box mess,
I'll sandblast all of the other parts that were removed from the car.
For those of you that may not know it, the VIN number is stamped
into the body in 2 loactions on the 61-66 Tbirds. (This is in addition
to the data tag) It's a good idea when you buy a car to make sure
the VIN# is the same in all locations!!
