1958-1966 THUNDERBIRD BODY PARTS ILLUSTRATIONS
The illustrations below show the different pieces
of stamped sheet steel used in the
UPPER BODIES and UNDER BODIES
of 1958 thru 1966 Thunderbird
HARDTOPS and CONVERTIBLES.
Note that from 1958 thru 1963, the UNDER BODIES of the
HARDTOPS and CONVERTIBLES is EXACTLY THE SAME.
In 1964 Ford added a little extra support in the rocker area
of the CONVERTIBLES with part number 10418,
other than that there are not differences in the UNDERBODIES.

http://www.timspage.net we know that in at least 1962 Ford added an additional structural member in the rocker of convertibles. There are some pictures here
Thanks Tim!

on the UNDERBODY sheets for the 58-60 AND 61-63
ILLUSTRATIONS MEANS THAT BOTH
THE HARDTOPS (63A) AND CONVERTIBLES (76A)
ARE THE SAME

The two pictures below are before and after I cut a section out of
the rocker of a 62 parts car I have.
Note that part number 10117 which ususlly resides standing vertical in
the large opening is completely rusted away.
This part is (usually) present in both the HARDTOPS and CONVERTIBLES.
I've found this piece to be rusted away in hardtop and convertible
parts cars I've taken apart for donors.

For years people have been sucessfully cutting the tops off 58-66 Hardtops to make "Parade" cars without them caving in, so Ford obviously built them solid enough to begin with.
