Once I watched the movie, I knew I would desperately surrender to the book. The reading was magical. It is amazing how certain thoughts and deeds can turn one into a child, I read and re-read the book waving with its tears and fears and its whims and fancies. To me it is a must-have on the book shelf.

William Goldman, the author of The Princess bride, has been writing books and movies for more than forty years. He has won two Academy Awards (for "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" and "All the President's Men"), and three Lifetime Achievement awards in screenwriting. He wrote the screenplay for the movie version of his book. He was married to Ilene Jones, who seems to have taken most of the pictures of him that appear on the backs of his books. They had two daughters, Jenny and Susanna and it's from these young girls then that the The Princess Bride originated. He asked them what they'd like him to write a story about. One said "princesses" and the other said "brides". "Then that will be the title" he told them.
