From June 16-23, 2001, while half of Troop 134 went to summer camp at the Bert Adams Scout Reservation, the other half participated in BRAG (Bicycle Ride Across Georgia).  The event was from Hartwell to St. Simons Island.

The Scouts and adult leaders returned from BRAG with many stories and highlights.  It was tiring, but fun.  They biked through many small towns and saw many sights.  These included Hart County High School, Historic Washington, Washington-Wilkes Comp. High School, the home of Alexander H. Stephens, Lake Sinclair, Georgia College & State University, Georgia Military College, Dublin High School, a movie theater, Vidalia, Lyons, New Branch, and beautiful St. Simons Island.

Each day began at about 5:30am with the goal of being on the road by 6:30am.  Some of the meals during BRAG were prepared by the troop; some were eaten at restaurants.  Running (drinkable) water was not as accessible at the campsites as initially anticipated.

The stories brought back spoke of the attractive girls on the ride, Prescott’s brakes shredding, Chico’s tire blowing out, and Mrs. Haney taking a minor tumble down a hill as she got off her bike.  As the riders got close to the coast, the more they smiled, the more bugs they found in their teeth and mouth.  "Gold" Medals were awarded to the Boy Scouts for completing BRAG.

Some of the Troop 134 participants are already talking of returning to BRAG next year.
