Troop Snow Sports Trip

Well...this was what some
probably dreamed they could do.

On January 12-14, 2001 the Troop went on a snow sports trip.  Unfortunately, the two troops we camped with in the summer of 2000 were unable to join us.  We began this trip on Friday night by primarily packing a U-Haul trailer and the vehicles with all we would need and prepared most of the meals for the rest of the trip.  We slept Friday night in the church activities building and got a very early start (5:05am) to the ski area.  Most of the Scouts snowboarded at the ski slope we went to; Wolf Laurel Slopes.  According to their web site, Wolf Laurel Ski Resort and Wolf Laurel Slopes is located in Western North Carolina's Blue Ridge Mountains near Mars Hill, North Carolina.  Instead of camping out in tents, we used our backup plan and stayed in two cabins at the Asheville East KOA camp ground.

We got in two good days on the slopes.  We left the Wolf Laurel Slopes in the mid-afternoon on Sunday and arrived in Atlanta in the late evening.  This trip was one of our more expensive trips, but we can thank the Hubert T. Greenway Memorial Foundation for Troop 134, BSA for paying much of the cost.  The Troop members really enjoyed the trip and want to take a similar trip during the next scouting year, but if we do so, we will need to do some fund raising to finance such an expensive trip.
