On November 17-18, 2001, the Troop camped at the Unicoi State Park located 2 miles northeast of Helen via Ga. Hwy. 356.  During the trip the Scouts worked on the Orienteering Merit Badge and did some sightseeing in Helen.  At 4:00am, the Troop got up and viewed the Leonid meteor shower.

The park's web site describes the park this way:

"Nestled in the north Georgia mountains just two miles from the Alpine village of Helen, Unicoi is one of Georgia's most beloved state parks. Throughout the year, the park offers outstanding programs which focus on natural, cultural, historical and recreational resources... Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy hiking and biking on scenic mountain trails, especially those leading to Helen and Anna Ruby Falls."
