*A bloated corpse, no hands or feet, tied to a rowboat and sank in a Chicago lake. It was obvious the girl had been alive when she drowned. Her skin was rubbed raw from where she had struggled futilely to break free of the ropes. There was little chance of retrieving prints from a drowning victim. The rope was a generic brand, sold at most hardware stores. Annie determined that the victim's hands and feet were chopped off with a hacksaw, and there was no other evidence.*

*Something wasn't right. There were two types of killings, some were more 'normal' and others weren't. Claire looked at pictures of the 'Lucy' killer's work. Now, the Jack-o-lantern, the bride and groom, the woman hanging from the church, and the couple and baby were different. The sewing people together was a recurring theme. In both cases, it was suggestive of sex. The first couple were sewn together even in the genitalia, and the second couple was sewn together, and the child forced back into the mother's womb after being born. The two couples seemed to symbolize different stages in the life cycle: marriage and having kids. But what about the other two? Were they supposed to be suggestive of the approximate timeline? Perhaps the jack-o-lantern symbolized that it was an October marriage? Then what about the woman hanging from the church? That didn't suggest any particular time of year. Well, any lead was a possibility. Claire reached for the phone and dialed.*
