Book of Redoran

From the thick woods came the pilgrims,
And with each step their path
Became like dirt embers, dragging their legs,
And Veloth, seeing the mother's legs
Tortured called forth his people.

And on those days the houses were many.
To clan Aldis, how much water carries?
And clan Aldis had little to feed warriors.
To clan Vereth, how much water carries?
And clan Vereth had little to feed the children.
To clan Telvanis, how much water carries?
And clan Telvanis had little to feed the dirt.
And so it was for house Dagoth and
Indoril and Metrith and Dres.
And to clan Redoran, how much water carries?
But clan Redoran did not show their bottles empty.
We carry none, for even on this dry plain
We See the presence of Azura and her waters.

And Veloth looked to the land and saw no sign.
Then to where do we go, all asked.
And to them House Redoran said, southeast,
Which caused alarm to the pilgrims
For this way showed only desolation.
Do not be fooled by the constraints of this land,
For as you give us root, so shall we nourish you.

And this came not as the voice of a house.

Among the first day no troubles were carried on backs.
And the second day no worry lived in the pilgrims.
When the last drop of water was drank
On the third day the children ached for water
And Veloth called upon House Redoran.
To which way does a pilgrim walk
When everyway is the barren void

And the head of house Redoran knew
This is no empty plain,
For even here, the world bares fruit.

To the distance Redoran showed the pilgrims
A hemlock of trees, and they knew
Here remained the waters they searched for.

As the pilgrims all entered this dessert wood,
They came upon a cold spring,
Whose waters came from deep below.
And they enjoyed the shade which they labored for.
When the sun disappeared in the sand hills,
A strong wind blew, and the pilgrims
Feared the coming of a dust storm.
So Veloth came to House Redoran
And asked if they should build shelter.
And House Redoran knew
To tear down these blessed trees
Would peril our shelter,
For in the daedra's presence
Comes protection of all forms.

And the sands shifted, and blew
But not a grain came within the hemlock.
And Azura came to them and spoke
These trees are my protection
The water is my nourishment
Which I will give to you in all the worlds,
For you have given your faith and love.
Let the winds call as they will forever,
But know it shall not sting your eyes.
