****It is at this point that the NWA Heavyweight Title becomes the WCW Heavyweight Title.
NOTES
1 Luger and Windham were declared top contenders
when Flair left for the WWF.
2 Jimmy Hart put a clause the in match's contract
stating that The Giant could win the title by DQ.
Hart caused the DQ so the title became vacant.
3 Savage won the 60 man battle royal for the
title.
4 Sting was stripped of the title after two
controversial wins (Starcade, where he won title, and Nitro on January
8th) both against Hogan. On 2-22-98 Sting and Hogan again fought
for the title.
5 Nash lays down to Hogan, allowing Hogan to
win the belt.
6 DDP defeated Flair, Hogan, and Sting in a
four corners match for the title.
7 DDP defeated Sting, Nash and Goldberg in a
four corners match for the title after loosing it earlier in the show.
8 Savage pinned Nash in a tag team match with
a stipulation added which stated that whomever pinned Nash would become
World Champ. Sting was Nash's partner and Sid Vicious was Savage's partner.
9 Title was vacated after a controversy regarding
Goldberg's victory over Sting Halloween Havoc. The title was vacated
and Bret Hart won a 32-man tournament, defeating Chris Benoit in the final,
to win the title.
10 Hart vacated his own title on 12-21-99 because
of a controvesial title win over Goldberg at Starcade on 12-20-99.
Hart defeated Goldberg later in the show to win back the vacant title.
11 Bret Hart was stripped of the title because he
was unable to compete due to injury. Chris Benoit defeated Sid Vicious
in a number 1 contenders match for the title.
12 On 1-17-00, Referee Arn Anderson reversed Chris
Benoit's victory the previous day because he found out afterwards that
Sid had his leg under the ropes, therefore, Benoit's summission move should
have ben broken. The title is vacated. Sid defeated Kevin Nash,
as number one contenders, to win the title.
13 Nash stripped Sid of the title but Sid won it back
later the same night.
14 On 4-10-00, Vince Russo and Eric Bischoff vacated
all titles. Jarrett defeated Diamond Dallas Page in the finals of
a tournament to determine the champion.
15 DDP put the World Title on the line in a tag team
match in which whomever scored the pinfall would become the champion.
Actor David Arquette was his tag team partner. He scored a pinfall
on the opposing team of Eric Bischoff and Jeff Jarrett.
16 Jarrett defeated Arquette and DDP in a triple threat
triple cage match.
17 Flair was stripped of his title because of health
problems. Jarrett defeated fellow number-one contender Kevin Nash
to become champion.
18 Nash defeated Jarrett and Scott Steiner in a triple
threat match for the title.
19 Nash handed the title over to Ric Flair because
Ric never really lost it.
20 Jarrett laid down for Hogan. Vince Russo
ordered that Hogan be retired with the belt and that a new
title be made because this title was worthless.
