NOTES
1 McDaniel was stripped of the title because
of injury. Slaughter defeated Rick Steamboat in the finals of a tournament
for the vacated strap.
2 Slaughter awarded the title when an injured
McDaniel didn't show up for the match.
3 Valentine awarded the title when the ref stopped
the fight because of a nasty cut over Piper's ear.
4 McDaniel was stripped of the title because
Tully Blanchard helped McDaniel win the match. McDaniel defeated
Manny Fernandez in the finals of a tournament for the vacated title.
5 Title was Vacated when Magnum TA attacked
NWA President Bob Geigel. A best of seven series was ordered between
Nikita Koloff and Magnum TA.
6 Title was vacated because Rhodes hit NWA President
Jim Crockett with a baseball bat. Windham defeated Koloff in the
finals of the tournament for the title.
7 Luger was forced to vacate the title because
he had won the World Heavyweight Title. Sting vs. Steve Austin was
the final of the tournament for the US title.
8 Rude was stripped of the title because he
failed to defend it due to injury. Rhodes vs. Steamboat was supposed
to be a match to determine the number 1 contender for the title but since
the title had become vacant, it was changed to a title match.
9 Title was declared vacant after a controversial
"double pin" ending to a match between Rhodes and Rude.
10 Austin was awarded the title because Steamboat could
not defend it. Duggan defeated Austin later that night.
11 Vader was stripped of title after several violent offenses.
Sting vs. Meng was the final of the title tournament.
12 Title was vacated after Flair failed to defend it because
of injury. Guerrero won after Kevin Nash, Scott Hall and Syxx of
the nWo attacked DDP.
13 Goldberg won the World Heavyweight Title so he was forced
to vacate the US Title. Bret Hart and DDP were named top contenders,
Hart won the match.
14 Hall failed to defend title within 30 days, so he was
forced to vacate it. A tournament was held with Scott Steiner defeating
Booker T in the final.
15 Steiner failed to defend because of an injury, so Ric
Flair (who was involved in an angle as WCW President) gave the title to
his son.
16 Hall was forced to forfeit the US Title because
of an injury.
17 Jeff Jarrett was stripped of the title for failing
to defend it. Commisioner Kevin Nash later gave the championship
back to Jarrett.
18 On 4-10-00, Vince Russo and Eric Bischoff vacated
all titles. Steiner defeated Sting in the finals of a tournament
to crown the new champion.
19 The Cat (commissioner) stripped Scott Steiner of
the title because he used the banned Steiner Recliner. The Cat held
a tournament and Lance Storm defeated Mike Awesome in the finals.
Storm renamed the title the Canadian Heavyweight Title.
