Pokemon Card Challenges
New and different...
...That only change the rules a little...
...And they're really, really fun!
If you've gone to the Pokemon TCG League as much as I have, and if you played the challenges, then you know that all of the challenges give you the disadvantage. If you want to play with some new kinds of challenges, use the totally fun, "Tracey"-approved challenges.
Tracey's Challenge Note: Tracey Sketchit's challenge, not "Tracey".
Yu-Gi-Oh! Challenge
Song Challenge
Opposite Challenge
Upside-Down Challenge
Tracey's Challenge: If you win a battle with a basic Pokemon, you are awarded 30 extra points. Why basics? Because Tracey's Pokemon are basic Pokemon. Why 30? 1) There is no such thing as three points in a badgebook 2) Tracey has three basic Pokemon, so there are ten points for each of them. Doesn't that sound like a fun challenge? I used that as a challenge for the Millenium Pokemon League that I had in my basement on New Year's Eve 2000-2001.
Yu-Gi-Oh! Challenge: Act like a Duel Monsters player while playing with Pokemon cards. Bet you're wondering why I wrote this down...here's why: Yami Yugi is so annoying when he's dueling! He announces everything in a strong, loud voice, so for this challenge, you should too. My brother and I were really getting into it...here's an example of a turn: *brother slams card onto playmat* "I attach a fire energy card to the quaint Ponyta, and I attack with Fire Tail, bringing wimpy Charmander's life points down to 30!" Me: "I draw a card from the deck!" *slam card down onto table* "I play the Potion card on the wimpy Charmander, bringing its life points up to 50! Now I shall attack with wimpy Charmander's Ember!"...and so on. Optional: Decorate red card covers so that they look like Duel Monsters cards and place them on your deck. Note: Your voice may get tired during the game.
Song Challenge: Whenever you want to say something, it must be synchronized with the music playing. In order to do this challenge, there must be music playing in the background. I was using the Pokemon Best Collection CD, but you can use any music you want. Where was I? Oh yeah, play the music, and when you want to announce your attack, you will have to do it at the same time other words are being sung in the song. YOU MUST SING THE WORDS IN YOUR COMMAND TO THE TUNE OF THE WORDS BEING SUNG! For example, let's say I'm listening to Zettai Part 2 from Ranma 1/2 and wanted to use Charmander's Ember attack. The music will be going "Zettai! Zettai! Nani wa nakutemo", but I will be singing "Ember! Ember! Charmander will use ember"! It's really quite fun. And it's okay to sing along with anything playing...as long as you remember to pay attention the game.
Opposite Challenge: Say something that is the opposite of what you want to do. Is there such thing as opposite day? Let's just pretend that there is. This challenge happens to be confusing but fun. Here's how a turn could go: "I refuse to draw a card to start my turn!" *draw a card from the deck* "Oh, Charmander won't use Ember attack." *An energy is discarded from Charmander as it does 30 damage to the Defending Pokemon* Get the idea? Also, sarcasm helps a lot. Optional: Reverse the sides of the coin...so heads become tails and tails become heads!
Upside-Down Challenge Play all cards upside-down. Upside-down...as in...your opponent can read the text easily, not face-down. Prize cards, benched Pokemon, even your hand must be kept upside-down. I realize that confused Pokemon are upside-down, so if your Pokemon is confused, flip it right-side up. Plain as that. Have fun!
