   Center For Applied Linguistics    A  resource for articles on ESL education, especially for those working with refugees    Check out the fact booklets on refugee populations including Somalis, Bosnians, and Iraqis.
   Linguistic Funland    A resource for all things having to do with linguistics    Extremely thorough.  Great for research.
  English Teaching Forum    Electronic version of the EFL journal.    Articles espcially for those planning to work overseas in an EFL setting.
   SIL International    General lingustics resource page    The Lingualinks are great for research.
   EFL web   An online magazine for teachers and students    Most of this site is oriented towards the teachers but they have a chat room for students to practice English.
The Internet TESL Journal A monthly internet journal Has lessons, techniques, projects available on line.  Changes monthly and requests submissions.
The ELT Newsletter    Teacher resource and discussion forum on EFL    This site has anew article every Friday.  Not to be confused with the ELT journal.
ELT Spectrum An activities page for EFL Activities and ideas galore!    Has some tests available on-line from different British textbooks.  Is somehow connected to Oxford Univeristy Press so it definitely has a bias.

Language Conferences by Roy A comprehensive listing of conferences through 2004 Want to attend a conference?  Just choose.  Site lists conferences of interest to language teachers, linguists, translators and interpretors. Fun!
   Georgia TESOL    Homepage for Georgia TESOL    Provides up to date information on conferences, how to join, etc.
   TESOL     Homepage for the vast professional organization TESOL    Provides links to journals, TESOL quarterly and information on conferences around the world
   GA State ALESL     Homepage for Georgia State's master's program in Applied Linguistics    Everything you need to know about applying to the program, information for present students and best of all - JOBS galore.
   IATEFL    Homepage for International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language    This group is essential to connect with if you teach overseas.  Their journal is outstanding - a good resource for classroom activities and for keeping up with what's going in in EFL today.

   Interfaith Calendar    Calendar for all major world religions    Great for keeping in touch with your student's religious needs and holidays.  Useful for intercultural education.
   Webshots    Freebie pix from around the globe    Teachers can use pictures for inciting discussion, encouraging sharing between students.
  The Storyteller    Fairytales and stories on the web    These can be used in an EFL/ESL classroom, though they are very fantasy oriented.
Spring Institute A training center in Colorado - you have to pay for it but not the info on the site. This group provides trainings for teachers who work with adult refugees, among other services. They are well published and have some wonderful teaching activities.  They are well-known on the TESOL conference circuit.

   Dave Sperling's ESL Cafe    THE website for ESL students    It doesn't get more comprehensive than this.  Great links.
   Foreign language resources on the net    An exploration of foreign languages on the web    Students can take a look at language learning for other languages besides English.
   Phonetic resources    Help with pronunciation from a kind of technical side    Students ususally can't get enough pronunciation practice. Good links.
   New to the USA    Cultural information for newcomers    Very thorough - deals with all aspects of American life including holidays and university life.
   ESL Cyber Listening Lab    Listening exercises on the web    Wonderful activities for students to practice listening comprehension.
   Activities for ESL Students    A project of the Internet TESL Journal    All kinds of activities online.  Check out the bilingual vocab quizes.

UNHCR    United Nations High Commission for Refugees Homepage    Everything about UNHCR activities and the refugees they bring into the country
US AID Website for the U.S. Agency for International Development Slanted towards U.S bliefs but nonetheless a source of info about places where the US is providing assistance, such as Sudan, Sierre Leone, Ukraine, etc.
INS    Immigration and Naturalization service Homepage    Invaluable resource on all kinds of visas and regulations regarding immigration
Refugees.org U.S. Committee for Refugees homepage This is an excellent informational website for teachers who work with refugees. Recordings of refugee voices, country by country info, search by issues affecting refugees.
Refugee Camp    Site operated by Medicins Sans Frontiers    I've been waiting for this to work with the promised virtual tour of a refugee camp to no avail. However there are teacherresources for middle and high school students and general info on refugee camp life.
Refugee health/immigrant health Site devoted to refugee mental and physical health As most teachers will find, the health of their refugee students is an issue in class.  Teacher should be aware of the issues and learn how to deal with them.
Refugee Studies Centre    British based organisation    This cite is Euro-centric and academic oriented but nonetheless helpful for those doing research on refugees.
Refugee News General site with info on refugees O.K., so this one hasn't been updated since 1997.  Visit for the links. They have a not too bad list of organizations working with refugees including the Red Cross, Medicins Sans Frontiers. 
Kakuma Refugee Camp    A resource for teachers on Kakuma    Most of the refugees coming to the US from Africa pass through Kakuma. This is a resource for teaching 9-11 year olds  but the background is good for anyone who works with students out of Kakuma.
