| Born of a bi-racial coupling, Lori was the daughter of a black slave woman and a wealth white landowner in New Orleans, just before the civil war broke out. Her mother was a Hoodoo witch from Africa, and her father was smitten with the beauty of her. Some say it was a love mojo back that the slave woman gave to her master. Others don’t think it matters the reason. The landowner was a widower and his business was soon to suffer with the war. Most of his land was lost after Lincoln ended the bloody war, and the south was rebuilding. The wealth man did however do his best to keep the lovely slave woman and their daughter from the brunt of the harsh reality of the changed south. Lori, grew into a lovely young woman, she studied at the feet of her mother. Learning the African art of MoJo from her mother and learning to read from her father. The girl was bright, but to her father’s distain, she refused to give up the taste for the unseen. The young woman learned of great books on the occult and sought them out. In a time of great publishing on the forbidden art, Lori scrambled to read all the books. SOME of the books she has come across in her time: "The Sixth and Seventh Books of Moses" (as well as "The Lost 8th, 9th, and 10th Books of Moses") Harry Middleton Hyatt's 5-volume compilation of hoodoo spells. "de 91 Psalms of David" (Godfrey Selig's "Secrets of the Psalms") "The Black Art," by Hermann "Albertus Magnus," Albert the Great (1193-1280). Lewis de Claremont's "Seven Keys to Power," "The Long Lost Friend" by "John George" Hohman "Eulis! The History of Love: Its Wondrous Magic, Chemistry, Rules, Laws, Modes, Moods and Rationale; Being the Third Revelation of Soul and Sex, also, Reply to 'Why Is Man Immortal?' the Solution to the Darwin Problem, an Entirely New Theory." by Paschal Beverly Randolph. As she grew in her exotic beauty, her mother also taught her to read the tarot cards, she seemed to be able to just pull the right things from the cards from the earliest of her attempts. As the south recovered from the Civil war, Lori learned to speak German from a tutor; her father originally a German immigrant demanded that the girl learn to speak his language as well as the French of the region. She learned some of the ancient words of power from her mother, but she was quickly directed away from anything African. Her lighter skin tones meant she could at times pass for a white child, and this was an asset in the post-war south. As she found books, she discovered that a great many of the original books had in fact come from Germany, so she sought and found them in the original translation to study. As Lori neared her 20th year, the rag tag family lost her mother. Lori's father in his grief committed suicide and left the young woman alone. She quickly gathered her collection of books, and found a local fortuneteller to apprentice under. Little did she know that the man was a vampire, he saw the girls already dawning knowledge and decided she would indeed make a wonderful addition to the New Orleans Chantry. In just a few weeks, as soon as Alexander Breaux had cashed in a boon from the Prince of the time, the young Lori was embraced and taken to the chantry. She actually made the transition smoothly, she relished in the chance to read and study the great books of chantry. Her skill for learning helped her to move rather quickly (200+ years) through the first 4 circles of the Mysteries. After a very unsuccessful stay in St. Louis, Lori was sent back to the council of seven to undergo blood bounding. Clan member, Samantha Castle, noting that Lori was less than reliable in the St. Louis Chantry was the champion behind Lori's blood bonding. It is whispered that Lori was merely a scapegoat for the regent of that chantry, but either way, she is now bound to the council for good. She was allowed to keep her only ghoul, but only as another way for the clan to blackmail her into good behavior. All that disciplinary action was for upsetting the sensibilities of an Archon. As further punishment, she was sent to Sabbat territory as possible cannon fodder in the keeping of the Chantry there. |
