Review by Carlo in Berkeley:
This new Van Morrison Bootleg has 18 tracks of studio demos from his classic period: 1968 - 1971. All of the material has been bootlegged before on Laughing In The Wind (tracks 1-12), and Naked In The Jungle (tracks 1-6). The tracks are acoustic recordings with very good sound quality. All arrangements have a slow tempo where all of the lyrics are crystal clear. (sort of like tracks 15-20 on the Dark Knight Of The Soul bootleg.) The beginning of some tracks include Van introducing the song or discussing the arrangement with someone else. The most exiting thing about this new boot is that it has seven unissued songs. For me, this fills a tiny part of void created by PolyGRAB's decision to delay the release of The Philosopher's Stone into 1997 or beyond. The artwork on/in the CD jewel-box might be the best on any VM CD (commercial or bootleg); it includes many color photographs of Van, Janet Planet, and her son Peter (no relation to Van) taken around the time of His Band And The Street Choir release. The cover photo is one of a very young George Ivan Morrison holding an album cover called KING PLEASURE. The only writing on the CD is 'Made in Australia'. The back of the jewel-box has a 'PEG BOY' logo on it.
