Review by Nathan Wirth:
I believe that tracks 9-14 are actually taken from
the KKCY FM broadcast on New Year's Eve 1985. Van provided these tracks for KKCY
to broadcast as a New Year's eve special. The Orphanage material was actually
broadcast on television (so videos of it do exist), and I believe that Yellow
Cat used it as its source. The evening was hosted by Tom Donahue -- a local Bay Area
radio personality -- and there are several quick interviews with Van throughout the CD.
Tracks 1-8: Recorded at The Orphanage, San Francisco, CA; July 29, 1974
Tracks 9-11: Live 1973, unknown locations
Tracks 12-14: Bonus tracks (see notes above)
Musicians:
The backing band on the Orphanage tracks was Soundhole, a band from the San Francisco
Bay area who backed Van up for two years in the early 1970s. More information on Soundhole
