Original liner notes:
Until few months ago "Them" was just a plural pronoun, but are now widely recognized as one of the top groups on the pop scene, certainly very different from six months ago when, with spirits very low and practically broke, they had to return to their home in Ireland after their first record "DON'T START CRYING NOW" didn't appear to be making any progress. During this time, their next single "BABY PLEASE DON'T GO" was released and it was no surprise when it was picked for the theme music for one of the top English pop T.V. shows, "Ready Steady Go". The record moved rapidly into the charts and the boys were immediately cabled to return to England as offers started flooding in - a complete contrast to the days when the price of a hot meal was hard to come by. The flip side "GLORIA" was released in America and is now shooting high on the American charts. This incidentally, was written by Van Morrison, the lead singer.

With the success of "BABY PLEASE DON'T GO" they were able to realize some of their ambitions such as equipping themselves with very "with it" gear. THEM HAD ARRIVED!!!

Steps had to be taken for a good follow up. Bert Berns who wrote "BABY PLEASE DON'T GO" came up with "HERE COMES THE NIGHT" which was a natural for THEM and was hailed by many as the best produced record for many months. This leaped right to No.2 in the national charts and the general opinion was that it would have reached the No. 1 spot had it not been for the fact that the Beatles new single was also released at this time. The "B" side "ALL BY MYSELF" was also written by Van.

At this stage their original organist decided to leave the group and was replaced by 20 year old art student Peter Bardens from London, previously with The Cheynes, and is the only member of the group that doesn't come from Belfast.

THEM have appeared on every top pop Television show in the country and now have an enormous following of fans from all over the world. Over the course of a week they cover thousand of miles to all parts of the country to do one night stands and concerts, and plans are now being made for their first trip abroad-to America-where no doubt they will be able to establish themselves as well as they have done in England.

Van Morrison is the lead singer and song-writing member of the group and also plays tenor sax. The rest of the group includes Billy Harrison, Lead Guitarist; Alan Henderson, bass guitarist; John McAuley, drums, piano and harmonica; Peter Bardens, Organist.

This group, with their revolutionary new sound have excited millions of teenagers all over the world and should continue to do so for many more years to come.

Note from The Eggman: The songs "DON'T START CRYING NOW" and "ALL BY MYSELF", mentioned in the text, appear re-issued on the Backtracking LP
