The basis for this saber design had to come from the original Obi Wan Kenobi saber from ANH.  OWK's saber was created from LOTS of found items, but Luke's from ROTJ, was either lathed or CNC'd out of a solid metal bar.  Side View
Some of the stunt sabers had Graflex clamp assemblies on them.  While others were attached boxes.  At least one version of this saber in the movie was Obi Wan Kenobi's stunt prop from ANH. Top View
This saber can be created "hardware-wise" by using fender washers, and aluminum tubing. Bottom View

Update...I am about 3/4 way through building this saber with washers and pipe.  When it is completed, I will be posting the tutorial.  Here are some work in progress shots.
