Another quality set for Galactica Fanatics! "There are those who believe... that life here... began out there. Far across the universe. With tribes of humans... who may have been the forefathers of the Egyptians... or the Toltecs... or the Mayans... that they may have been the architects of the Great Pyramids... or the lost civilizations of Lemuria... or Atlantis..."

Who amongst Battlestar Galactica aficionados can forget that dramatic opening monologue? As a child, I vividly remember anticipating 8pm on Sunday evenings when the show would come on TV. Despite being labelled as a "rip-off" of the Star Wars basic concept (I still don't see enough correlation between the two, other than Glen Dystra being the special effects guru for both.) Sure, Star Wars was huge at the time, but did it have to be the only space-themed show out there? Of course not! Regardless, the producers were sued by George Lucas, who claimed that some of his ideas from Star Wars (1977) had been used. Rittenhouse Archives strove to replicate the spirit of the show by covering all 24 episodes of the original Battlestar Galactica series...and succeeded. The photography is all-new scenery, and completely unlike the 1978 Topps issue. Each box contains 40 packs (7 cards to a pack), and contains at least two auto cards per box, which is a nice little bonus!

The set does not offer any costume cards up front; however, a Commander Adama costume card was made available to those who purchased the official binder for the series. That fact aside, there are some exceptional chase cards to collect in this set. The autograph cards are beautifully done, offering a clear, unobstructed view of the signature. Dirk Benedict is the shortest run in the series, and the most expensive to acquire on the secondary market. The subset "Galactica 1980" covered the only 10 episodes of the short-lived second series. The "Colonial Warriors" subset highlights individual members of Galactica's crew. And rounding out the chase cards is the Matt Busch ArtiFEX™ set, along with SketchaFEX™ sketch cards hand-drawn by various artists.

On the appearance side, the card stock is very thick and sturdy. The only drawback, in my opinion, is the "busy" border and oddly-cropped angles around the main picture. The border dominates the overall "look" of the card, and really narrows out the available space for the picture. This could have been toned down just a bit, while still offering an attractive appearance. The photo selection is outstanding, offering scenes that have never appeared on any other Galactica card set. The information on the reverse of the cards is accurate and entertaining, along with the additional photography.

Overall, this is a fantastic set for Galactica fans! The cards allow you to experience a bit of nostalgia by bringing back memories of scenes that you may not have even seen in 20+ years. When a set can accomplish this, it becomes a worthy addition to your collection.

"...Some believe that there may yet be brothers of man... who even now fight to survive... somewhere beyond the heavens."
