TO BE OR NOT TO BE' - a 2nd Stage Reiki student. Shakespeare had more serious issues in mind for Prince Hamlet when he wrote those most famous of words. However, we are often questioned about whether - and, if so, when - a person who has entered the world of Reiki would consider undergoing training at this further level. We both consider that 2nd Stage is not essential training for most people, and it is certainly not necessary to receive the empowerment at that level to make one's Reiki "better" or "stronger". Using Reiki daily in one's life through self-treatment and treatment of others is the most effective way to enhance the flow of energy, and we have an expectation that the would-be 2nd Stage student will be doing just that. We also feel that there is need for an appropriate time-lapse between training at each stage - certainly a minimum of three months, and, more likely, an ideal period would be some six to twelve months to allow deepening of the student's practice and the gaining of experience. If the student is contemplating working with Reiki in the public domain, then 2nd Stage is seen as a necessary prerequisite. Eventually, it would be hoped that, through the proposed practitioner association, there would be opportunities for accredited courses for further training to a level where the student would be entitled to call him/herself a "Reiki practitioner". Through this additional training, the student may acquire additional knowledge and skills such as in basic anatomy and physiology, communication skills, etc, plus will have gained appropriate hours in clinical practice. These additional skills are often taught in the training for other modalities, but are not part of the traditional forms of training in Reiki, but would be required knowledge in professional practice. So most students will find that what they are taught and given at 1st Stage will achieve all that they need from the practice. Then, when the student feels a call from within that there is a need to deepen his/her practice further, 2nd Stage may be considered. At that point, it is suggested that students discuss this with Eileen or Jim to further clarify their direction in the practice. Then, if it is decided by the student to move to this level, that student will be required to review beforehand a 1st Stage training to clarify and revise what they have already been given in their training. There will be no additional fee charged for this. This 'revision' will also be of value in that we are continually expanding our experience, knowledge and information about this lineage of Reiki and its background, so the would-be student will gain from this revision. Another point that needs to be clarified with students trained to 1st Stage, whether by Eileen or Jim or by other Masters, and who are contemplating 2nd Stage. This is a need to be aware that, in this lineage, the empowerments/initiations have some differences to those given in the Takata/Furumoto lineage. Therefore, the student initiated into the Takata/Furumoto lineage at 1st Stage, and who wishes to be trained by Eileen or Jim at 2nd Stage in the Jin Kei Do lineage (nowadays we only teach in this lineage), will need to receive the 1st Stage empowerments used in the Jin Kei Do lineage before moving to 2nd Stage training. This is a specific requirement of Dr. Ranga Premaratna, the lineage head. It would also not seem appropriate to receive the 1st Stage training in the Jin Kei Do lineage and then move to 2nd Stage in the Takata/Furumoto lineage. All training should be completed in one or other lineage. If there is a need to clarify these issues, then a student is advised to talk with Eileen or Jim before making any decision.
AND
HERE'S ANOTHER WAY TO HELP OTHERS
Janeanne Narrin is an experienced Master resident in the Seattle area on the US
west-coast. For some time, together with a team of helpers, she has been
running a monthly activity called "The Reiki Waveİ" whereby people from all
over the world may seek Reiki support. Janeanne has kindly written this brief
article of explanation:
"I was looking closely at a mandala the other day during my daily meditation. I
noticed the squares, and circles, and the spaces between. And then, I
experienced how they all worked together to create an overall impression. Later
that day, I began thinking about how we human beings are like that. We are in
relationship to self, to other, to the whole of life, and there is an overall
effect.
Interestingly, in the very process of relating, everything is forever flowing,
like the waves upon the sea. . .changing.
It seems that all of us react to change. Some people just smile at change. Some
people like things to stay the same and never change. Some people like not
knowing what's around the next turn and dislike sitting still. No matter what
kind of person you are, or how you look at change, it need not be disturbing.
As in the mandala, one simply must recognize the "overall" part, the part that
continuity plays in the process.
We can come to see continuity in the looking glass of our relationships.
The soft-spoken monk, Thich Nhat Hahn, whom Martin Luther King nominated for
the Nobel Peace Prize comments: "Looking deeply, we can contemplate one thing
and see everything else in it." A procession of "interbeings" goes beyond the
boundaries of the separate self to the source of well-being within self.
One way we can bring Reiki energy medicine into our everyday lives is to share
it! And one way we can do that, as a community of on and off-line Reiki
practitioners who are scattered all over the world, is through this extended
act of loving kindness energised by Reiki. This starts in the east and runs
with the sun to the west, wherever a Second Degree Reiki practitioner intends
to distance Reiki for the highest good of all concerned.
If one is not a
Second Degree practitioner, one may choose to say a prayer or practice
The special connections that unfold during the REIKI WAVEİ touch into an
emphatic resonance with self, other, and the sea of life. What we experience
then, at so many levels, demonstrates how each one of us is a part of, and
influences the other.
Here too, relationships (to self and other, to sensory
attractions, to group consciousness, to nature, to all that is) take on an
holistic perspective. It becomes important to bring one's self into balance
(physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually) as clearly, one affects
not only self but also others, to the Seventh Generation and beyond.
By aligning energetically with loving-kindness and gratitude during meditation,
we can contribute to the wellness (balance) of the whole. Through the REIKI
WAVEİ practice (where we experience ourselves in a broad sense within the
continuous fabric of life) we can balance ourselves.
In the large picture, the
power of one and all is immense! We have the potential to effect the whole and,
(think about this)-- vice versa. From this perspective, the very real
perspective of our interbeingness, we have the opportunity to inspire new ways
of deciphering the code of life. As we come to define ourselves as interbeings,
we can re-imagine ourselves in the new cosmology of our awakening."

Of course, add
REIKI to the OUT breath...just a simple adjustment of intention, and a handy
practice to have if one isn't especially in touch with one's own Reiki energy.
Undoubtedly after a bit of this meditation, the energy will start to flow again.
How to participate, and how to send a healing request - details you need to
provide are as follows:
(1) Name of Reiki Recipient
You do not need to be on-line to participate in the Reiki Wave.
All that we need to do is be mindful (wherever we may be) of the noon hour, and
at that time offer Reiki for a few minutes or longer. Then, as each one of us
(or a group of friends at a Reiki Circle) joins in, a wave of Reiki can gently
flow around the globe. Can you imagine our Reiki Wave spreading the warmth of
peace and well-wishes as it travels with the sun across the planet?
To participate in the REIKI WAVE...
Once registered on her web-site, you will be notified of the next Reiki Wave.
Feel free to share this information with friends.
Janeanne has an excellent web-site which may be accessed through a hyperlink
