A variety of trails in this popular DC
area park and connecting trails to Riverbend Park
 | Basic Conditions:
 | Excellent parking on a paved lot. The
ranger will direct you at the main entrance, however it is the 3rd parking area seen on
the map below. It remains less crowded than the others.

 | Marked trails criss-cross and circle
through out the park, paralleling the Patowmack Canal, Old Carriage Road and Difficult
Run. There are some hilly sections and one features a stairstep arrangement of
natural lumber ties.

 | Trail surfaces consist of either carriage
gravel or hardpacked dirt. The former are in the open areas while the latter are in
nicely wooded areas.

 | Potential Hazards:
 | Tourists unfamiliar with horses

 | A section of the Old Carriage Road Trail
passes through the picnic area where you may encounter almost anything. Of
particular scariness are outdoor cooking fires, pedestrians carrying canoes and kayaks,
and flying frisbees.

 | Rules & Restrictions:
 | Entrance fee of $2.00 per person up to
$4.00 per vehicle applies.

 | Obey restrictions as indicated on
information given to you by the Guard at the entrance.
|
 | Park is open every day except 12/25 and
closes at dark.
|
 | Swimming and wading are prohibited.
River depth and currents can be unpredictable.
|

 | Directions from the Capital Beltway:
 | Take Route 495 (the Beltway)
toward exit 13

 | Exit at Exit 13 (Georgetown Pike,
Route 193)

 | Travel west for 4.0 miles !! go slowly, this is a two-lane road with hills and curves !!
|
 | Turn right at the traffic light
onto Old Dominion Dr (Rte 738) and follow it for roughly a mile and a half to the entrance
station.
