Greetings from Australia. I am working as a project officer developing a similiar trail as your own here in Victoria, Aust. It is called the Murray to the Mountains Rail Trail and will be 94 kilometres in length when it is complete. It extends from Wangaratta to Bright to Beechworth through the Ovens Valley, that is predominately high country, snow capped peaks in winter, decidous trees in Autumn (fall). Our trail is to be bitumnised throughout 1.8m wide. A family friend sent me one of your DL Fliers and our aim is to develop something similiar when we get to commercialising the trail. I would like to email you agains to discuss, your marketing and business plan and perhaps how the Trail is managed day to day. Ours operates over three shire boundaries and each contribute to the maintenance, etc. Our biggest weakness is that it is not a loop (users have to ride both ways) and that we don't have the suporting infrastructure in place yet (or the dollars to do that) ie toilets, water, rest stops etc Congratulations on you website it is very informative and hopefully we at MTTMRT can do something similiar soon Regards Darren Murphy

Been riding KHT for past two years usually after work. My sincere thanks to all those involved in creating and maintaining the KHT. I ride 20 miles round trip. I appreciate not worrying about traffic and unfriendly dogs. Always looking for other riders (12 avg mph for 20)...so if interested contact me...usually we ride on Monday nights.

There are three or four of us fellows that get up and are on the trail by 6:30 in the morning. We have found that this is the time most of the bugs are not out and it is the coolest weather with no real wind. The true beautyof the trail is most profound at his time.

Have already riden 4 times this season. About 55 total miles each time. Will be glad when trail is completed over 131 and closer to Kalamazoo. I am going to ride in the trailblazer and can hardly wait until the weather warms up so I can travel lighter< r>

It has been a long time since I first rode on the Kal Haven Trail. I was 18 the first time I rode on the trail and I rode about 24 miles, 12 one way and 12 back. Now that I am older and I started riding it agian. I have seen alot of changes. My boyfriend nd I are planning to ride the whole 34 miles from South Haven to Kalamazoo. If we make it we may ride it back the next day! I really enjoy it. I don't have to worry about cars and dogs!! I can just enjoy the day and the great outdoors. We plan to go riding again this weekend. We've got to get ready for the long ride!! I did not know that there was a web site for the Kal Haven Trail. But very glad I found it. Thanks for All the great info.

We'll be riding on the trail at the end of August when staying in Allegan. Does anyone have any suggestions for the best part of trail, if I don't think I'd be able to handle riding all 30+ miles both ways? Is there a sensible "loop" to take? Many than s, Jessica

I love the trail!! It is a nice break from having to ride in traffic, but still has plenty of small towns on the way to stop off at. My boyfriend and I travel 60 miles one way a few times each summer to ride the trail.

I just moved here from Chicago. The KHT was the first thing I found. I really appreciate the efforts of those who worked to develop the trail, as I read here at this site. Thanks for providing the additional history and information that I didn't get in the brochure. So far, I've only ridden on the eastern end out to Gobles and back several times. I've also run in the evenings after work. It's great to get away from the traffic. The wild flowers are the highlight of the journey. I appreciate the water wells and the latreens will help keep the trail clean.

John, Very nice web page. I am delighted to see that the Kal-Haven Trail finally has a home page! Thanks for remembering us dinosaurs who helped create the trail way back when. It was a lot of hard work to get the trail going but history has proven tha our energy was well spent. My memories of those early days get sketchier by the year but I will always remember the satisfaction of the DNR giving the check to Penn Central at the Bloomindale Depot. Other fond memories are of the day work began on the trail itself where then state rep. Mary Brown cut some crazy ribbon we put across the trail and 100 people started whacking at the underbrush with anything with a blade. I'll never forget the Channel 3 coverage of chain saws flying in every direction! But the most important lesson in the trail, however, was the fact that ordinary people can accomplish extraordinary feats if they work together. None of the recognized Kalamazoo community leaders were involved with the trail in the early days. It was just a bunch of people who thought it wa a great idea and were willing to work to make it happen. For their effort, everybody who uses the trail owes a debt of gratitude for without them, it would have never happened. From one who was there to make it happen: Everyone Enjoy!

It sounds like a neat trail. I walk around town for exercise but would be afraid to walk on the trail by myself. I would like to carry my tent and take about 3 days to do it all on one trip there.
