We had hoped to climb Chapin, Chiquita and Ypsilon in one great day of hiking, but the weather changed our plans.
The trailhead is located about six miles up Fall River Road. You have to get there early because the parking area us extremely small.
We started off on a beautiful day planning to do Ypsilon first and hitting the other two summits on our way back.
By the time we got to the saddle between Ypsilon and Chiquita we could see the weather was turning bad and knew we weren't going to have a chance to complete the hike.
Steve and I headed for the summit of Chiquita while
Flo, Kim and Betsie retraced their route back to the car.
We didn't spend much time on the summit.
There was lightning over Trail Ridge Road so we hustled back down.
We got to the car at the same time as the storm. It passed quickly, but with the lightning and sleet, we were glad we had hurried. On our way up Fall River Road we saw some magnificent bull elk grazing only a few feet from the road.
