Chapter Thirteen
“Mrs. Carter? Nice to meet you, please follow me,” Officer Grieg led Jane and the rest of the Backstreet Boys up to a roped off area. There were two bodies already sealed up.
“Oh…my…god…I’m gonna barf,” AJ covered his mouth and turned around as they unzipped the bag. Nick let the wind whip his face cruelly. Howie closed his eyes and prayed. Kevin stood still as a rock…not even blinking.
All 5 of them sighed when they saw the bodies. It was neither Brian nor Emily. The sight of the two bodies made AJ sick and he started running away from the bodies.
“Thank goodness,” Jane said hugging Nick . She shook hands with the police officer and talked a bit longer while Kevin, AJ, Nick and Howie walked up the pier.
“Dude…I’ve never been so scared,” AJ admitted
Nick nodded “I know…” he said.
“Thank god,” Kevin cried.
“Hey guys…? Our world tour starts in 2 weeks…” Howie started.
“Cancel it,” Nick said firmly.
“Nick…Brian may be back by then…” AJ started.
“Cancel it,” Kevin said echoing Nick’s words. They all turned to stare at him
“I can’t bear touring right after such a tragedy…we’ll just postpone it’…for a long time.” Kevin said biting his lip. He wasn’t sure if they would ever tour again. Is Brian safe?
That night Brian built a fire. It was this small pathetic looking fire. I started laughing as soon as I stepped out of the tent from my nap. It was the smallest fire I’d ever seen. “Brian…what’s that? A night light?” I asked
Brian raised an eyebrow…he was so sexy when he did that. “No…” he said warily. Brian wasn’t sure if Emily was being sarcastic or joking with him so he answered her straight out.
Emily sat down on the ground. Brian hesitantly sat across from her. He wanted to badly to sit next to her and hold her…but he knew that he’d never have a chance.
I was upset that Brian didn’t sit next to me. I looked into his face across the fire. My stomach rumbled. I tried to cover it up but Brian heard. He didn’t even laugh. He did look up surprised. He made a sad face and gave me a weak smile.
“Me too… “ He said quietly staring at his shoes. I smiled sadly and got up when I was warm enough. “I’m gonna go sleep now,” I said and went into the tent.
“Good night,” I said softly. Brian nodded.
Brian still stared ahead not saying anything.
This was our second night. Brian didn’t love me anymore. We were in the middle of nowhere. I missed Lisa. I had never been so scared in my whole life.
It had been 1 week now. AJ, Kevin, Nick, and Howie had returned to Orlando already. Basically…they weren’t as depressed as before.
“Oh my gosh…are you Nick Carter??” a girl around Nick’s age went up to Nick while they were walking. Nick looked at her underneath his fisherman’s hat. She saw his blue eyes and she nodded
“I know my man when I see him!” She said. Nick laughed. He signed her hand and she posed for a picture with him.
After that whole ordeal she asked Nick “Are you planning on taking the lead now that Brian is gone?” She asked. Nick’s smile disappeared “Brian isn’t gone,” Nick said slowly. The girl looked somewhat surprised
“I’m sorry…” She said. Nick shook his head “It’s ok…” he said. She left
“I hope they find Brian!!” She said over her shoulder. AJ took a deep breath and Howie played with his fingers as Nick stood there aghast
“Did you hear her? She thought that Brian was dead!!” Nick forced out a fake laugh “What a pessimist,” he said. No one dared to talk. Nick gulped “I want to go home,” he said and turned around. The rest of the guys followed.
