Chapter Twenty Three

> I couldn’t sleep for days. In fact. I wasn’t talking much either.

“Emily?” Gina knocked on my door.

“Come in,” I said sleepily.

Gina flopped on my bed. “You haven’t eaten in days!” she exclaimed

I shrugged. So I wasn’t hungry. Who cared?

“Here,” Gina took out a Big Mac from her purse. She knew how much I adored Big Macs.

“Lisa, Jen, and I went to Mickey Dees and we brought this back for you,” She placed the burger on my desk.

“Em…it’s gonna be ok…I don’t care what those fans say, as long as you know the truth it’s gonna be all right,” she said smiling. The first nice thing Gina ever really said to me was just now. I smiled a wobbly smile back at her. She gave me a one handed hug and left the room. I took the burger and threw it in my wastebasket.

2 Months Later

I was showing. My stomach was already getting somewhat bigger. I knew I couldn’t hide it any longer in my room. I hadn’t eaten for awhile either. I was hungry and everyone in my sorority was out. I left my room and went downstairs to the kitchen. I tripped on something that someone must’ve left on the stairs. A book or something. I went flying down the stairs. Everything turned black.

Lisa came home 2 hours after Emily fell. She opened the doors and hummed a Mariah Carey song under her breath. She had just gone out with Jeff and had the best time.

“Oh…my…god!!” Lisa screamed as she saw Emily sprawled on the bottom of the stairs. She felt Emily’s pulse, Nothing.

Panicking, she called 911. The ambulance arrived 10 minutes later.

At the Hospital:

“Lisa Monroe?” The doctor stepped out of Emily’s hospital room.

“Yes?”

“Emily…she seems to be very weak which explains why she collapsed. I’m sorry to say that during the fall, she lost her baby,” Lisa gasped and held the doctor’s arms

“How is she?” she asked desperately.

“Since she hasn’t been eating for a month or so…she’s currently in a coma, the toxins in her body are just not enough to fight her immune system…we’ll continue feeding her nutrients of course while she’s asleep. Chances are…she might not make it…” The doctor looked at Lisa. Lisa started crying

“I’m so sorry…perhaps you’d like to call her parents?” Lisa nodded.

First she called Emily’s parents. When she hung up the phone she stared at the phone. She put in another quarter in and dialed someone else.
