Chapter Twenty Four

“LOSER!!” Brian cried as Nick pounded the cement with his fist

“34 to 30!! That’s just not fair!!” Nick cried.

“Hahaha!!” Brian fell to the bench and started cracking up.

“Um…Brian? Have you been smoking?” AJ asked. Brian looked around

“Who told?” He cried. Kevin laughed

“No way Brian…” Howie cried.

“Well…I mean…” Brian stammered and pretended to burst into tears. Kevin laughed.

“Nick??” Jane Carter called from the door

“WHAT??”

“Is Brian out there?’ Jane asked. Brian got up from the bench and jogged over to Jane

“What’s up?” he asked

“Phone call,” Jane answered and handed Brian the phone.

“Hello?” Brian asked cheerfully.

“Brian?” Lisa cried

“Yeah…who’s this?”

“Lisa!” Lisa said

“Lisa?? Hi! What’s up?”

“Brian!!” Lisa burst into tears. Brian’s smile disappeared

“What’s going on?”

“Emily collapsed…she hasn’t been eating for awhile and…she might not make it…” Lisa sobbed.

“Dear god…I’ll be right over there!” Brian hung up the phone.



“GUYS!!” Brian shouted. All four heads looked up at him

“Emily’s in the hospital…they think it’s critical…I have to go,”

Nick got up too “Not without me!” he cried.

“My panda needs me,” AJ said getting up as well

“We’re coming too,” Kevin and Howie said putting on serious faces.



At the Hospital:

Lisa sat on the plastic chair. She had just waked up from her nap. She saw the Backstreet Boys all looking at her.

“How’s Emily?” Nick asked as he sank down next to her.

“She’s just peachy,” Lisa muttered.

“When can we see her?” Kevin asked. Just then a doctor came out.

“We just did tests on her, its final that her baby is gone…it must have been a hard knock,” He said. Brian looked at Lisa when the doctor left

“Bay…bie?” He asked. Nick’s eyes grew wide and he didn’t say a word. He prepared himself for this one

“Yes…she lost her baby!” Lisa was oblivious to the fact that Brian didn’t know about Emily and Nick’s baby.

“Emily was pregnant?” Brian cried

“Yes! While you were out pursuing your image of the wonderful Backstreet Boys. She got pregnant!” Lisa said.

“By…who?” Brian didn’t look at Lisa.

“Brian!! I’m so sorry… I swear!! It just happened..” Nick cried out,

Brian looked at Nick as if he didn’t know who Nick was. Surprise. Astonished. Shot in the heart.

“Nick…?” Brian choked out. Nick looked at Brian with tear filled eyes.

“I guess you guys are really good at that,” Lisa interrupted them while they were staring at each other.

“Good at what?” Nick asked

“Breaking Emily’s heart.” Lisa said.

“I can glue it back together,” AJ said disgustedly pushing past Brian and Nick and walking towards Emily’s room. Brian and Nick didn’t bother to go in. They were scared out of their minds.



Emily had tubes going up her nose and into her wrists.

“What’s going on?” AJ asked the nurse.

“She needs her nutrients, I’ll leave you two alone for now,” the nurse said

AJ sat next to Emily, one of his closest friends.

“Well…! I can see she has many visitors today!” The doctor chirped as he walked into the room.

“Is she going to be okay?” AJ gulped.

“It was pretty critical at first, but she seems to be stable. Stay as long as you want until visiting hours are over,” the doctor left.

AJ held onto Emily’s cold hand

“Wake up…” He whispered.
