Chapter 58
In the morning I woke up and Kevin wasn't there. I sat up and looked at the clock. It read 9 o'clock. Then Kevin walked in with breakfast on a tray.
"Morning my beautiful fiancee," Kevin said.
I smiled as I replied, "Morning Boo."
He sat down on the bed next to me.
"I made breakfast just for you," he said as he kissed me.
"Mmm. . .smells delicious," I said.
Then Kevin and I began to eat. Once we were through he turned on the t.v. and we watched cartoons.
"Aww, this is the life," Kevin said as he put his arm around me.
"Isn't it though," I said as I began to kiss him.
He held me close to him as we continued to kiss.
"Hey Kevin. Steve's on the. . .," Ann began as she walked in. "Oops, sorry. Didn't mean to interrupt."
I pulled away from Kevin.
"No, it's okay. What were you saying?" Kevin asked.
"Steve's on the phone for you," she said.
"Oh, all right," he said.
He sat up and picked up the phone.
"Hey Steve!" Kevin said.
I kissed Kevin and then walked out with Ann. We sat in the living room watching the news.
"So when are you two going back?" she asked.
"I'm not sure. We're enjoying ourselves so much," I said.
"I can tell," she said.
"Why? Are you ready for us leave?" I asked while smiling at her.
She laughed. "Never. You can stay as long as you'd like to."
"Good, cause I don't think we're leaving any time soon," I said.
Then Kevin ran downstairs. He hopped on the couch and sat in my lap.
"Oh! Kevin!" I yelled.
"Yesss!" he said.
"You're too heavy," I said laughing as I tried to push him off.
He turned and kissed me. Then he stood up.
"Thank you," I said.
"Sure thing," he said. "Oh, guess what."
"What?" I asked.
"Steve invited us to the movies. Want to go?" Kevin asked.
"Really? That sounds like fun. What time?" I asked.
"12:30 at the mall," he said.
"Cool," I said. "I guess I better go get dressed."
"I'll race you," Kevin said.
"Okay," I said as I went to stand next to him.
"Go!" he yelled before I was next to him. Then he took off running.
"You cheater!" I yelled while running after him.
He just laughed. Then he ran into our room and locked the door.
I knocked on the door.
"I'm busy right now!" he called out.
"Kevin Scott Richardson, open this door!" I said.
"I can't," he said.
"All right," I said. Then I placed my nails on the door and began repeatedly tapping them on the door.
"Okay, okay. I'm coming," he said.
He opened the door and pulled me in.
"That was driving me insane," he said.
"I know, that was the point," I said.
He smiled and kissed me. Then he slapped my butt.
"Now go get dressed," he said.
I kissed him and then ran to get my clothes.
Both of us got dressed and then we left to meet Steve. He parked the truck and we got down. We walked up to the movie theater and spotted Steve waiting for us.
"Steve!" yelled Kevin.
"Kevin!" yelled Steve.
Steve walked up to us and gave Kevin a hug. Then he gave me a hug.
"Hey Steve," I said.
"Hi Janel, long time no see," he said as he let go.
I smiled. "Yeah, it's been a while."
"So how have you two been?" he asked as we stood in line to buy our tickets.
"Perfect," I said as I held out my hand showing Steve my engagement ring.
"Oh wow!" he said as he looked at it. "Congratulations you guys!"
"Thank you," Kevin said as he held my hand.
We bought our tickets for Rules of Engagement and got our refreshments. Then we walked into the theater and sat down. We continued to talk with Steve until the movie started.
"So how have you been?" I asked.
"Good," he said.
"Are you married?" I asked.
"Yes, I am. Crystal had to work today," he said.
"Oh that's too bad. I would have liked to meet her," I said.
"Another time maybe," he suggested.
"Yeah, that'd be good," I said.
Then the lights dimmed and the previews came on. I leaned my head on Kevin's shoulder and enjoyed the movie.
Once the movie was over with we walked out to the front.
"What do you guys want to do?" Steve asked.
"How about we walk around in the mall?" I suggested.
"Sure," Steve said.
Then Kevin's cell phone rang.
"One second," Kevin said as he pulled out his cell phone.
"Hello," he said.
"Kevin," a man's voice said.
"Yes."
"It's Jerry. Give the phone to Janel."
Kevin handed the phone to me.
"Who is it?" I asked quietly.
"Jerry," he said.
"Jerry?" I asked as I answered the phone.
"Yes, it's me."
"What do you want?"
"It's your mom, she's in the hospital."
"What?! How is she? What happened?"
"She was just coming down the stairs and she blacked out and fell down. I tried to catch her, but it was too late."
I began to cry.
"Just come to St. Joe's Hospital right away. She's asking for you," he said. Then he hung up.
I gave the phone back to Kevin.
"I'm sorry Steve, but something very important has come up and we need to leave," I said.
"Sure, no problem. Call if you need anything," he said.
"Thanks," I said.
"Uh huh," he said as he hugged me and then Kevin. "Bye guys."
"Bye!" Kevin said.
I took Kevin's hand and raced towards the truck.
