Chapter 72

Once I heard the door slam I sat back down on the couch. Rick hugged me as I continued to cry.

"Are you okay?" he asked as he wiped my tears away.

"Why does he have to come back? I was doing just fine without him. I was beginning to forget," I said.

"You lied didn't you?" he asked.

"What?" I asked confused.

"You still love him," Rick said.

"No, I don't. We're through," I said.

Rick just shook his head. "You're listening to your head and not your heart."

"I don't want to talk about this anymore," I said.

"Okay," he said as he hugged me again.

Then we sat there in silence.

I looked up at him and noticed he had blood above his eyes.

"You okay?" I asked as I pointed at his eye.

"Oh yeah, I'm fine," he said as touched his forehead.

"Come on, let's get that cleaned up," I said as I took his hand and walked to the bathroom.

He sat down while I got a washcloth. I wiped off the blood and then put medicine on it.

"So why were you two fighting?" I asked.

"Just a misunderstanding," he replied.

"Really? What kind of misunderstanding?" I asked curiously.

"Oh, nothing really," he said.

"Yeah, that's why you two were on the floor beating each other up," I said sarcastically.

"Don't worry about it," Rick said.

"Fine," I said reluctantly.

Kevin got into the cab and was taken back to the hotel.

Once he got into his room he fell back onto his bed.

He didn't know what hurt worse, his lip where Rick had punched him or his heart that had just been broken. It definitely had to be his heart. He couldn't believe that he was going to be father and didn't even know it. And he didn't get to be there to celebrate the news when she found out. And then there was that look that Janel gave him when she told him that she didn't love him anymore, it practically killed him. But deep down inside he believed that she was lying to him and to herself. But it still hurt him to hear her say those words.

Then he sat up and called Brian.

"Hello."

"Hey cuz."

"Oh hey. What's up?"

"I saw Janel."

"You did? Where? How is she? What'd she say?"

"She's pregnant."

"What?! Is it yours?"

"Yeah."

"Why do you sound so gloomy? Isn't she with you? Didn't you guys talk?"

"No, she doesn't want to talk to me."

"But how did you find out she was pregnant?"

"Because while we were arguing she got a dizzy spell and Rick said something."

"So she's been with him the entire time?"

"Yeah."

"Are they, you know. . .together?"

"I don't think so. But she told me that she doesn't love me anymore. She said that we're through."

"What happened over there?"

"Well I went over to Rick's and me and him got into it and then she walked in."

"You guys started fighting?"

"Yeah, we did. But Brian, when I first saw her I just wanted to pull her into my arms and kiss her. Oh, I miss her so much."

"What'd she say to you?"

"She was angry that I had shown up. I told her that we needed to talk, but she wouldn't listen. All she wanted was for me to leave. She said that we didn't need to talk because there was nothing to talk about. And I asked her if she loved me. . .and. . .she told me no."

"She did?"

"Yeah."

"I'm sure she didn't mean it, Kev."

"God, I hope not. I can't live without her. Plus now I'll be a daddy."

"So what are you going to do?"

"I'm not sure."

"You're not giving up, are you?"

"Of course not! I'll just give her a few days to cool off, and then I'll see her again."

"Do you know where she lives?"

"No. I'll have to go over to Rick's again."

"Good luck."

"Thanks. Oh, can you call Lauren and everyone and tell them that she's okay?"

"Sure."

"Thanks Brian. Talk to you later."

"Okay, bye."

Kevin hung up the phone and laid down. He tossed and turned as he kept thinking about what Janel had told him.

I grabbed my purse and walked out the door.

"Night Rick," I said.

"I'm really sorry that we didn't get to go out," he said.

"It's okay. It's not your fault," I said.

"I'll make it up to you," he said.

"Another night then," I said as I got into my car. "Oh and Rick."

"Yeah?" he asked.

"Thank you," I said.

He smiled and shook his head yes.

I waved good bye to him and then drove off.

I walked into my house and threw my purse on a chair. Then I went to my room and quickly changed. I shut off the light and climbed into bed.

Well some birthday. I had planned to go out with Rick and enjoy myself, but it didn't happen. Nothing that I had planned ever happened. Because my plan was to be married to Kevin, but instead I wasn't even talking to him.

I was torn by my feelings for Kevin. Of course I still loved him. I would always love him no matter what. We had been through so much together that there was no way I could stop loving him. But on the other hand I hated him for what he had done to me. He had betrayed me. I couldn't just forgive and forget. It was going to take me a while to forgive him. He couldn't just come back into my life and expect me to take him back.

As I laid there I placed my hand on my stomach. I still had to think about my baby. I had to decide what was best for my child.
