Chapter 81
Kevin laid in bed as Janel took a shower, getting herself ready for work.
Then he heard his cell phone ring.
He found it in his bag and answered it.
"Hello."
"Hey Kev."
"Oh hey Brian. What's up?"
"I was just calling to see if you and Janel were okay."
"Yeah, we're just perfect. We are finally back together."
"That's wonderful cuz. I'm so happy for you. But that's not what I'm talking about."
"What do you mean?"
"I'm talking about the incident at the hotel."
"How did you know about that?"
"A couple people called and told me about it. I've also seen a few pictures on the t.v. in entertainment news and on MTV."
"What are they saying?"
"That a fan approached you for an autograph and Janel got jealous, so she hit the fan. They have a picture of you just watching Janel slap the girl."
"Those bastards!"
"That's not what happened, is it?"
"Of course not! Some damn tabloid reporter twisted everything!"
"What really happened?"
"Janel and I were going up to my room when some guy calls my name. So. . .stupid me looks back and he starts taking pictures of us. So we start running towards the elevator when a group of girls surrounded us. And you know how the fans can be towards our girlfriends."
"Yeah."
"Well they forced Janel away from me and then one of them grabbed onto her. She was hooked onto her until Janel finally slapped her. And I'm sure that's the only picture that the guy got."
"It's the only one they've been showing."
"Figures. Always assume the worst of the girlfriends."
"Yeah, and thanks to MTV, I'm sure every Backstreet fan has heard it."
"Great. Just when I think everything is starting to work out again, something else happens."
"So what are you going to do?"
Kevin sighed. "I don't know. I guess I'll be hearing from management and our spokesman soon."
"So how is Janel and the baby?"
"She's okay. Luckily she wasn't hit."
"Thank God. I just wanted to make sure that her and the baby were okay."
"Thanks Brian."
"No problem. If you guys need anything, just call."
"Okay, talk to you later."
"Bye."
Kevin hung up and then put his phone back in his bag. He slipped on a pair of jeans and a shirt and walked into the kitchen. Then he began making breakfast.
I stepped out of the shower and got dressed. Then I did my hair and make-up. Once I was through I went out to the kitchen.
"Breakfast is served," Kevin said as he pulled out my chair.
I smiled at him. "Thank you," I said as I sat down.
"Go ahead and eat, I'm just going to get the paper," Kevin said as he began to walk away.
"All right," I said.
Kevin walked outside and got the paper. Then he came back in and sat down at the table with Janel.
I watched as Kevin searched through the newspaper. Once he found what he was looking for he read it carefully. Then he his face became full of anger.
"What's wrong Boo?" I asked.
"Nothing," he said as he closed the paper.
"Please, it's written all over your face What is it?" I asked.
"Nothing you need to worry about," he said.
I reached over and grabbed the paper from him.
"No," Kevin said. "It's nothing to worry about."
I continued to search through the paper as he tried to grab it from me. Then I found what he had read.
"Backstreet Boy's Girlfriend Attacks Fan," I read out loud.
"Here give me that. You don't need to read that garbage," Kevin said.
I stared at the picture.
"Give it here," he said as he tried to take it from me.
"No, I want to read the article," I said.
"Please don't," Kevin said.
I ignored him and began reading. Once I finished I sat there shocked.
"Well I'm one hell of a bitch, aren't I?" I questioned angrily.
"I told you it's just garbage," Kevin said.
"This isn't going to go over real well with management and the fans," I said.
"Don't worry about them. I'm going to take care of this," he said.
"How can someone just write this crap? The whole story is a lie!" I exclaimed.
"I know it is. I promise we'll find out who wrote this crap and we'll sue them. They have no right to spread lies about us," Kevin said.
"I'm sure that I'm hated by millions of fans by now," I said.
"I do not care what the fans think about you or us. I love you and I'm not going to let some lie destroy our relationship because I'm not going anywhere and neither are you," Kevin said as he took the paper from me. "All right?"
"All right," I said quietly.
"I promise I'll take care of everything," he said.
"Okay," I said as I got up. "I have to get going."
Kevin came up to me and wrapped his arms around me. Then he bent down and kissed me.
"Have a good day at work," he said.
"I'll try," I said.
Then I walked away and got my keys.
"Bye!" I yelled.
"Bye, love you," he said.
"Love you more!" I yelled as I shut the door.
I got into the car and drove to work. I flipped on the radio and the DJ was giving the entertainment report.
"Backstreet fans beware of Kevin Richardson's girlfriend. She's quite the bitch with fans. Apparently a fan asked Kevin for his autograph and his girlfriend, Janel, became jealous. She reportedly started yelling at the fan and then slapped her," the DJ reported.
Then the DJ felt that she had to get her own opinion in there.
"Who does that chick think she is? If it weren't for those fans, her boyfriend wouldn't be so rich. And we all know that's the only reason she's with him," the DJ said.
"Shut up!" I yelled as I shut the radio off.
I couldn't believe people would say things like that about me. Especially when they didn't know a damn thing about me or Kevin. They had no idea of the pain that Kevin and I had gone through to be with each other. And they just spread this lie like it was nothing. As if it weren't hurting me or Kevin. For them it was good gossip. Some dirt on a Backstreet Boy and his girlfriend. It was just entertainment to them.
I pulled into the parking lot, got out, and walked into Target.
I opened the register and broke open the money. Then I turned my light on letting people know that my register was open.
Kevin called his house and checked his messages. He had a message from every entertainment paper, magazine, and show. He also had every person from management calling.
'So much for an unlisted number,' Kevin thought.
He called management and explained to them what happened.
They told him that he should release a statement apologizing for the incident. But he refused because it wasn't Janel's fault or his and no one knew what really happened.
After arguing with management a little while longer, he hung up. He was still undecided on what to do.
