Chapter 92
2 Months Later
"Pumpkin! I'm home!" called Kevin as he shut the front door.
He had just come back from the grocery store. He had to make a quick trip to buy Janel what she wanted.
He searched the house, trying to find her.
I closed my eyes as I laid on the swing. I was enjoying the warmth of the sun on my skin, and the breeze as the swing gently rocked back and forth.
The last two months and had gone by in a blink of an eye. There was so much going on, such as, the twins, my moving back in, and Brian and Ashley's wedding.
Kevin and I made sure to call Ann the night we found out I was having a boy and girl. She was so ecstatic that she was going to be a grandma again. She told us if we needed anything or just needed to talk, then to make sure we called her. Which was something I had been doing a lot of lately. The mood swings had started, so sometimes I would get very depressed. That's when I just needed to hear my Mama's voice, just to know that she was still there.
Of course, then we had to call Rick and Char to let them know the results. When I told them, they had us on speakerphone, so they could both hear. Once I had told them Char began yelling, congratulating us. Both of them said they would have to come visit us soon.
Then Kevin and I began to move my things in completely this time. We spent the days unpacking the boxes and finally getting everything of mine in the house. After I had everything where I wanted it, it felt so much more like home. It was then that I knew that I wouldn't ever be leaving again.
And then there was Brian and Ashley's wedding. Kevin and I had spent a lot of time over there recently since Ashley had to fill me in on everything. She told me all of the details of the wedding and asked my opinion on absolutely everything. She wanted to know if she picked the right color of this, and the right flower for this, and the right bridesmaids dresses, and anything else she could think of. She always wanted my suggestion or opinion on something since Brian wouldn't give her his opinion. He told her he didn't care as long as it made her happy. All he cared about was that she would be his wife soon other than that nothing else really mattered.
"Babe! Are you out here?" Kevin called as he walked outside.
I got up from the swing and walked over to him. I stood on my tiptoes and kissed his nose.
Then I asked, "Did you get what I wanted?"
He smiled at me. "Yeah, Ritz Crackers filled with peanut butter."
"Mmm. . .yummy," I said.
"New craving?" he asked as I took his hand and walked into he house.
"Must be, because I just felt the need to eat those little Ritz Cracker sandwiches with peanut butter," I said. "And it's all your fault."
"Mine?" he asked.
"Yeah, you're the one who loves the peanut butter," I said. "I don't even like it."
"Oops," he said, smiling at me.
"That's okay though, as long as I don't start craving fish or something icky like that," I said as I walked into the kitchen.
"So what do we have planned for today?" Kevin asked.
"Not too much really. Although about 3 o'clock Ashley and I have to get my maid of honor's dress fitted," I said.
"Oh okay. Well until then do you want to go to the park and take Candy?" Kevin asked.
"Sure," I replied. "She could use some exercise."
Kevin laughed. "Yeah, I know. The guys must have spoiled her, cause she's a little porker now."
"At least she can climb up the stairs a little quicker now," I said.
"Yeah thank goodness, because I was getting a little tired of carrying her up and down the stairs," Kevin said as he walked out of the kitchen to get Candy.
I grabbed the Ritz Crackers and put it into a bag along with a book for me to read.
Kevin walked into the house with Candy on her leash.
"You ready?" Kevin asked.
"Yeah," I said as I slipped a pair of sandals on.
Kevin took my hand and we walked out. He put Candy in the back seat of the car and then helped me in. He closed my door, and got in himself.
"You know what?" I asked.
"What?" Kevin asked as he started the car.
"Each time we get in this car, it gets harder and harder to buckle myself," I said.
Kevin smiled. "My babies are growing aren't you?" he asked as he placed his hand on my now very round stomach.
Then he backed out and we drove off with Candy pressing her nose against the window.
We got to the park and Kevin got the bag, blanket, and Frisbee from the trunk. I opened the back car door, letting Candy out. I grabbed her leash as we walked to a tree. Kevin spread the blanket out underneath the large tree, which provided us with shade. I took my sandals off and sat down with Candy. She lay on her back as I rubbed her fat belly.
Kevin grabbed the Frisbee and then started to walk away.
"Candy!" he called.
She turned her head to look at him. As soon as she saw the Frisbee, she started to take off. But I quickly grabbed her and took her leash off, so she wouldn't trip on it in her rush to get to Kevin.
I laughed as I watched the two of them play. Then I grabbed my book and the food. Leaning against the tree trunk, I began to read as I ate the little mini cracker sandwiches.
After a while, Kevin got tired of chasing after Candy, so he decided to sit down with Janel. I set my book down as I noticed Kevin walking my way. He walked over to the tree and tied Candy's leash to it.
"Lay down Candy," Kevin said as he pet her on the head.
She did as she was told, resting her head on the blanket.
"Pumpkin, can you scoot up a little?" Kevin asked.
"Sure," I said as I moved.
Then he sat behind me, pulling me into his arms, and leaning against the trunk of the tree. The two of us just sat there watching people in the park.
Both of us were watching a little boy who was chasing after his ball. As he was running, he stumbled and fell down, face first into the grass.
"Oh!" I said as I saw him fall.
"Poor little guy," Kevin said.
We watched as both of the boy's parents rushed to him. The dad picked him up and brushed him off, while the mom wiped his tears away, both whispering words of comfort. The dad kissed his little boy's forehead and then handed him to his mom who also smothered him in kisses.
"You know that's going to be us real soon," I said.
"I can't wait," Kevin said as he gently rubbed my stomach.
"Kev," I said.
"Yeah?" he asked.
"Have you thought about names for our children?" I asked.
"Kind of. Have you?" Kevin asked.
"Yeah. What do you think about Jonathon?" I asked.
"What about Anthony?" Kevin suggested.
"Or for a little girl, Michelle?" I asked.
"Rachel?" Kevin asked.
The two of us sat there in the shade of the tree rambling off every name we could think of.
Ring! Ring!
Kevin pulled out his cell phone and answered it. "Hello."
"Hi Kevin."
"Oh, hey Ashley."
"Are you bringing Janel over here soon, cause it's already 2:45 and we have to be there at 3."
"Sorry, we must have lost track of time. We'll be over in about 10 minutes."
"Okay, thanks Kev."
"Uh huh," Kevin said, then he hung up.
"Who was that?" I asked.
"Ashley. You two have that appointment at 3 and it's already 15 till," Kevin said.
"Oh, okay," I said.
Kevin stood up and then reached his hand out to help me. We quickly gathered everything, untied Candy, and got into the car.
When we pulled up to Brian's place, Ashley was waiting outside for us. We got out and I kissed Kevin goodbye.
"We'll be back in a while," I said.
"Okay," Kevin said as he kissed my forehead. "You two have fun."
"Don't worry, we will," Ashley said as we got into the car.
Kevin waved goodbye to us and then went into Brian's house with Candy following close behind him.
"So where were you two?" Ashley asked.
"At the park, just enjoying the day," I said.
"Oh, I wondered where you were cause I've been calling all day," she said.
"Sorry about that," I said. "Kevin and I lost track of time as we watched other couples and their children."
Ashley smiled. "Are you two anxious for them to be born?"
"Yeah," I said, happily. "Actually we were discussing baby names."
"Oh really!" Ashley said, excitedly. "Did you agree on anything or pick one out?"
"Not really," I said. "We were just suggesting some names that we liked."
"Well you've still got about 3 months to decide," she said.
"Yeah, hopefully we'll be ale to decide by then," I said.
We pulled into the parking lot and got out. We walked in and a lady came up to us right away.
"Hi," she said nicely.
"Hello," we replied.
Then she smiled at us. "Now I can see why you waited 2 weeks before your wedding for this final dress to be made."
"Yep, just for me," I said as I placed my hand on my stomach. "Although I don't know why she couldn't have just got someone else."
"Never," Ashley said. "I would have not had this wedding had you not been back yet."
"Wow," the lady said as she began to measure me.
"I'm just glad Kevin found you before that happened though," Ashley said.
"Me too," I said. "But I still don't see why you insist on me being the maid of honor."
"Who else would I choose?" Ashley asked.
"Another one of your friends, you know someone not fat," I said.
"Janel, you're not fat," Ashley said.
I laughed. "Hello! Are you looking at me? I have seemed to gain some weight recently."
"No, you're pregnant, not fat. And yeah, you gain some weight when you're carrying two kids," Ashley said.
"Twins?" the lady questioned.
"Yep, a little boy and a little girl," I said, happily.
"Congratulations," she said.
"Thanks," I replied. "Okay, so Ashley explain to me how nobody sees that I'm fat. Cause when I look in the mirror that's what I see. And then you put me in your wedding, I don't understand."
"Girl of course I'm going to put you in my wedding! You introduced me to my future husband. Besides, you'll look gorgeous in this dress," Ashley said.
"Yeah, but. . .," I began.
"No buts," she said. "Now quit your complaining and let the lady do her job."
"Fine then," I said as I stood there.
She smiled and then sat down.
