Chapter 96
2 Months Later
Kevin kissed my forehead and then slowly got up.
"Do you have to leave now?" I asked.
He smiled at me. "Yeah, recording starts in an hour."
"So?" I asked, smiling. "You still have at least half an hour that you can lay with me."
"But I have to take a shower and everything," he replied.
"Please," I said as I patted his pillow. "Just for a little longer."
"Oh okay," he said as he lay down again. "Just for a few minutes."
"30 minutes," I said.
"15," he said.
"20," I said.
"10," he said.
"25," I said.
"10 minutes, no more and no less," Kevin said as he kissed my nose.
"Fine," I said as I buried my head into Kevin's chest.
Then we lay there underneath the warm covers as Kevin gently rubbed my back.
"How are you feeling?" Kevin asked.
"Like I'm about to burst," I said.
Kevin laughed. "That good, huh?"
"How great would you be feeling if you were carrying two kids and felt like a whale?" I asked.
Kevin just smiled. "I love you Pumpkin."
"Good answer Boo," I said.
He kissed my forehead and then got up.
"Do you want me to make you breakfast?" I asked as I sat up.
"No, it's okay. I'll just pick up something to eat on the way to the studio," he said.
"Are you sure?" I asked.
"Yeah, just stay in bed," he said.
"If you insist," I said.
Then Kevin went into the bathroom and took his shower.
While Kevin was in the shower, the phone rang. I checked the caller ID and smiled as I saw that it was Howie's number, which really meant that it was Lauren.
"Hey sis," I said.
"Morning girl," she said. "What are you up to?"
"Nothin' much. Just whining to Kevin, trying to get him to stay," I said.
Lauren laughed. "Is he going to?"
"No. He laid with me for an extra 10 minutes, now he's in the shower," I said.
"Oh, I see," Lauren said. "So what are you doing today?"
"Me?" I questioned.
"Yes, you," she said.
"I hadn't planned anything, besides you know, rummaging through the kitchen throughout the day and watching some TV," I said.
"Well now you have plans," Lauren said.
"I do?" I asked.
"Yep, the girls and I are going to take you out for brunch," she said.
"Sounds good to me," I said.
"Okay, we'll be at your house in about an hour," she said.
"See you then," I said.
Then I hung up as Kevin walked out of the shower.
"Pumpkin, do you want to come with me to the studio?" he asked.
"What? Why, Kev?" I asked.
"Because I don't like the idea of leaving you here alone, especially since the babies might be born within the next few days," Kevin said.
"And what would I do at the studio?" I asked.
"Watch the guys and I sing," he replied.
I smiled. "I'd love to, but I'll be fine here."
"Are you sure? Cause I'd feel a lot better if I could see you and know that you're okay," Kevin said.
"I'll be fine Boo. And besides, Lauren, the girls, and I are going out to eat," I said.
"You are?" he asked.
"Yeah, she'll be here in an hour," I said.
"Are you sure?" Kevin asked.
"Yes, and I'll be fine. But…if anything happens, I'll call you," I said.
"Promise?" he asked.
"Of course. No go, before you're late," I said.
"Not before I tell my babies goodbye," he said as he sat down next to me.
The he placed his ear on my stomach. As he gently rubbed my stomach, he began talking to them.
"Daddy has to go to work right now, so I won't be able to stay with you and Mommy. But you guys be good, and I'll sing to you when I get home."
Then he kissed my stomach.
"I'll call you during my break," Kevin said.
"Okay," I said. I kissed him goodbye and he left.
As soon as Kevin left, I made the bed and got dressed. I grabbed my white tennis shoes and headed downstairs.
I sat down, trying to put on my shoes.
"Can't even reach my stupid feet," I muttered as I tried to put them on.
Then the doorbell rang.
"Coming!" I yelled.
I used the arm of the couch and the seat to get up. Then I made my way to the door.
"Hi Lauren," I said as I opened the door.
"Hey sis," she said as she hugged me.
"Come on in," I said.
She closed the door behind her, as we walked into the living room.
"Sweetheart, aren't you going to tie your shoes?" she asked.
I laughed. "Yeah, I was getting to that, but I'm having a little trouble reaching my feet."
"Here, I'll do it for you," she said as she bent down.
"Thank you so much. I really didn't feel like struggling to tie them," I said.
"It's no problem," Lauren said.
Then there was a knock at the door.
"Come in!" I yelled.
"We're here!" yelled Stacey as she walked in.
"And we've got a surprise for you!" Ashley said.
"Yep, so close your eyes," Tina said.
"Now?" I asked.
"No, tomorrow," Stacey replied, sarcastically.
"Okay, I get the point," I said as I closed my eyes.
Lauren waved her hand in front of Janel's face. She then shook her head yes, signaling that it was okay.
All of a sudden it got very quiet and I couldn't hear the girls.
"You guys aren't going to do something to me?" I asked.
There was no response, just silence. Then I felt a pair of hands cover my eyes.
"Ahhh!!" I screamed.
"Guess who!" said the person, excitedly.
"Umm…I don't know," I said slowly, trying to calm down.
"Janel, come on now, you don't even have a clue," she said.
"Not a single idea," I said.
Then she took her hands off of my eyes.
I opened my eyes and the next thing I saw was Char.
"Char!" I exclaimed.
"Hey girl," she said as she hugged me.
"What are you doing here?" I asked as she sat next to me.
"Visiting you, of course," she replied.
"Did Rick come with you?" I asked.
"He wanted to, but you know him, had to finish his work," Char answered. "But he promised he'd come down as soon as he finished."
"Oh okay," I said.
"So how are you?" she asked.
"Ready for my babies to be born," I replied. "I'm tired of being fat. I'd like to be back to my regular size 7."
"When are they due?" she asked.
"In two days, or at least that's the due date I was given," I said.
"Are you nervous?" Char asked.
"No, not yet anyways," I said.
"That's good," she said.
"So are we ready to go?" asked Ashley.
"Yep, let's go," I said.
We all walked out and piled into two cars. We arrived at the restaurant and were quickly seated. We ordered our meals and drinks. The waiter then stopped by with our drinks; afterwards, he quickly left again.
"So are you ready for a day of relaxation?" asked Tina.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"Well since you refused to let me organize a baby shower," Lauren said.
"Well yeah, I don't need a baby shower. You girls have gotten me everything I could possibly need," I said.
"I know, and that's why the six of us are going to spend the day at the Princess Resort," Lauren said.
"Are you serious?" I asked, happily.
"Most definitely," Lauren said.
"So they're going to do like a whole makeover thing for us?" Char asked, excitedly.
"Yep," Lauren replied.
"And I can get a massage?" I questioned.
"If you'd like," Lauren said, smiling.
"Oh, that sounds good," I said. "My back has been really hurting."
"Well I'm glad you like the idea," Lauren said.
"I love it," I said as I hugged her. "Thank you sis."
"You're welcome," she said.
Then we spent the rest of brunch talking and catching up on what everyone was doing.
Soon after we had finished, we left for the Princess Resort. As we drove off, my cell phone began ringing.
I grabbed my purse, taking my phone out. "Hi Kevin."
"Hi Pumpkin. How are you?"
"Fine. The girls and I are headed to the Princess Resort."
"Did it turn into a girls day out?"
"Yep. Oh and guess what!"
"What?"
"Char's here!"
"Hello Kevin!" yelled Char from the backseat of the car.
"Tell Char I say hi," Kevin said.
I turned around to her. "He says hi too."
"So is…?" Kevin began.
"Before you even ask, the answer is no, he's not here."
"I was just wondering. She's staying with us though, right?"
"Yeah."
"Okay, that's good. So you're okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine."
"Okay, I guess I better let you go, the guys are yelling at me to get off the phone."
"Give them my love."
"Will do. Bye Pumpkin, love you."
"Love you too Boo, bye!"
"So how's Kevin holding up?" Char asked. "Is he ready to be a daddy?"
"Yeah, he's getting very over protective," I said. "He constantly asks me if I'm okay, like I might break or something."
"You know you love all the attention you're getting from Kevin," Char said.
"Yep," I said, smiling. "He is constantly pampering me, getting me anything that I need or want."
"So do you have him going to the store frequently?" Char asked.
I laughed. "Yeah, and most of the time it's late at night, that's usually when I get these major cravings."
"Does he complain?" asked Lauren.
"No, I haven't heard him complain once, actually," I said.
"Good, cause I'd have to hurt him if he did," Lauren said, smiling.
"Why's that?" Char asked.
"Cause he helped to create these children also, and he's not carrying them, so he shouldn't complain," Lauren said.
"Yeah, I think if he did complain, I might suddenly have a mood swing on him and then burst into tears or something," I said, smiling. "No, but Kevin's been really good to me."
"I bet he complains to the guys," Char said.
I laughed. "Yeah, I bet he does too."
We arrived at the Princess Resort and then made our way in. We all decided that we wanted to get a make over first. After that, all of us had our hair cut and styled. Then we sat down and received a wonderful foot massage.
"You know what," I said.
"What?" asked the girls.
"I should bring one of these guys home," I said.
They all laughed.
"I'm sure Kevin would just love that," Char replied.
"What?" I asked, innocently. "He'd be my personal masseur, what's wrong with that?"
"Nothing, besides the fact that Kevin would be a little pissed if another man was constantly giving his fiancée a massage," Stacey said.
"Yeah, he's more of a hands-off-my-fiancée type of guy," Ashley said.
"Oh yeah, that minor detail," I said, smiling.
By the time, the day was over with, I felt like I had gone to heaven. I spent the day with 5 of my best friends, just doing girl stuff. Those were things that I really hadn't done when I was younger, since Kevin was my best friend, he didn't particularly like painting his nails and talking about guys. And usually, I wasn't allowed to stay the night too many places…couldn't be far from home.
We pulled into my driveway and Kevin came rushing out.
"It's about time you got home!" Kevin said, as he helped me out of the car.
"Did you miss me?" I asked as I stood on my tiptoes and kissed his nose.
"Yeah," he said. "And I've been trying to get a hold of you."
"Oh, sorry about that," I said. "I left my cell phone in Lauren's car."
"Oh, okay," he said. "I was just worried about you."
"How sweet," Char said.
Kevin looked up and smiled. "Hey Char."
"Hi Kevin," she said.
"How are you?" he asked.
"Pretty good. You?" Char asked.
"Perfect," Kevin answered as took my hand and held it.
"Well, I better get going," Lauren said.
"Okay," I said as I gave her a hug. "Thank you for a wonderful day."
"You're welcome sis," she said. "Bye Kevin."
"Bye Lauren," he said.
Then Kevin, Char, and I went inside the house. I showed her the guest room, which she then got settled into.
"I'm sorry Char, but I'm going to go to bed now," I said.
"No, that's fine," she said. "I will too, but first I'm going to call Rick and let him know that I got in safely."
"Okay, night," I said.
"Night you guys," she said.
Kevin and I then went to our room, and went to bed. I snuggled close to Kevin and he wrapped his arm around me, while I closed my eyes and he quietly began to sing.
"I heard him promise you forever, but forever's come and gone. Baby he would say whatever it takes to keep you alive, tell the truth between the lies. Oh, I will love you more than that. I won't say the words then take them back. Don't give loneliness a chance. Baby, listen to me when I say I will love you more than that… " Kevin sang.
"That was beautiful," I said.
"Thank you," Kevin said as he kissed my forehead. "We're just beginning to work on that song now."
"Will you continue singing to me?" I asked as I began drifting to sleep.
"Sure Pumpkin," Kevin said as he kissed the top of my head.
