Welcome to my site. My name is Michael and I've been studying Japanese for four years. I started learning when I was in Jr. high school. I took French both years of Jr. high and I really enjoyed it. I don't know why exactly. It was the thought that when you know two different languages, you can convey a thought two different ways and have it mean that same exact thing. I find that fascinating.

One day my friend Tim came over. He used to come over every once in a while despite the fact I would never have anything interesting to do at my house. Well, one day we got bored so we turned on the TV. He started flipping through the channels and stopped when he got to Cartoon Network. They had begun a section on Cartoon Network that showed mostly anime. At that point I didn't know what anime was and it weirded me out a bit due to culture shock. But I decided it was interesting, so I started watching anime on my own.

Now, I don't know exactly why I did it, but I did. Some time soon after, I decided to look around on the internet for a site where I could learn more about Japanese. I had always heard it was one of the most difficult languages in the world, and I wanted to see if that was true. Finally, I came to a page called "Teach Yourself Japanese." It was a tutorial on the basics of Japanese maintained by a Japanese named TAKASUGI Shinji. There I learned as much as I could about the language. I read and re-read every lesson on his page. In fact, I have a print-out of most of his lessons under my bed somewhere. I'm still a frequent visitor of his page since he has added a forum for questions related to Japanese. My user name is "Maikeru."
