The first diesel ever to be used on the line , breaking a 115 year tradition of electrical power , this Simplex was built in 1987 by 'Alan Keef' of Ross on Wye and had been in use by the 'Butterley Brick Company ' until 1996 . This locomotive is not , however , intended for passenger service but for works duties when the power is off .
