Built by Boon & Stevens in Christchurch in c1896 to run on the privately owned tramway to New Brighton. The tramway was subsequently taken over by the Christchurch Tramway Board, and the tram was renumbered 91. It was subsequently used as a trailer behind steam and electric trams.

Number 91 was found devoid of all mechanical parts in a Woolston back yard. It was given to the Society and taken to the former Tramway Board workshops where it was restored to running order with new wheels and mechanical parts. On the opening day of The Ferrymead Tramway in January 1968 it ran as a trailer behind Kitson Steam Tram No 7. Since electrification of the tramway in 1970 it has also been used behind the electric trams as in Board days.

An impressive vehicle, it has been sponsored by J Ballantyne and Company Ltd a prominent Christchurch Department store.
