My Cats
I'll get photos up here eventually (hopefully), but right now, just descriptions
Indoor Cats
Lucy (short for Lucifer, or Lucyfur) - Lucy was my first cat. I got her while I was in college. She's a native Floridian (where I went to college) and so really hates the cold weather in MO. She's a black & white tuxedo cat. She's about 6-7 years old, and is getting to be quite fat. She's my favorite, because she's very very strange. I never know what she's going to do, despite the fact I know her so well.
Edgar - Edgar was my second cat. I got him about 2 1/2 years ago from a neighbor (his cat had kittens, so I took one). He's a black cat, hence his name (after Edgar Allen Poe, who wrote a story called "The Black Cat"). He looks like a 'Bombay' cat, although he's apparently just a mutt. He's very very small. Oddly enough, he doesn't mind cold weather despite the fact he has really short fur. He's a pretty good cat, although he's got a real vicious streak. He & Lucy get along real well, although every so often Lucy decides to beat the heck out of him. (Not seriously, just playing, sort of). He likes to talk a lot. Especially late at night, when I'm trying to sleep and he's lonely.
Baby-cat - Yes, she has a terrible name. It's a long-ish story. About 2 1/2 years ago, I found her in the back seat of my car. She was just a newly born kitten apparently - wasn't moving much, and her eyes weren't open yet. Apparently her mother had knocked out the back window of my car (which was plastic, and a bit loose - my car is almost 30 years old, after all, although the top is only 10).
Anyway, her mother later showed up, looking pretty wary at me. But I befriended her, and started calling her "Mama" and her kitten "Baby". At the time, I didn't want to get too attached, as I was hoping I could find homes for them. As it turned out, I couldn't. So I got stuck with their names.
I didn't think I had room (as since I had just gotten Edgar, I didn't think Lucy had much more patience), I let them live in my car for a few more days, then moved them into the old barn (I sort of live on an old farm, must to my chagrin, it's an even longer story). So Baby-cat lived there for about a year before I had to bring her in. I went to feed her one day, and noticed that one of her front legs was pretty gore-y looking (worse than Tipper!).
So, I took her to the Vets, and had to nurse her (not literally) back to health for a couple weeks. When she was healthy enough to put back outside, I did. (That was hard, as I was pretty attached to her). However, she didn't want to stay outside in the Barn. She came up to where I lived (about 1/4 quarter mile). So, I figured, what the hell, she wants in that much, might as well.
However, she apparently didn't realize that I had 2 other cats. So it took her awhile to adjust to them. And to this day, she still is mad at me for having 2 other cats (jealous). Despite that, she didn't want to go outside again, in fact, would run away from the door every time it opened.
She's a neat cat though. Very very fiesty (reminds me of Lucy). And she loves to squeak. Just like a mouse. It's pretty amusing. She's also enormous. At elast compared to Edgar. She's a few inches longer than Lucy, who I thought was a pretty big cat. She gets along well with Edgar, they play together a lot. But she and Lucy don't get along that well. Lucy is afraid of her, because Baby-cat went through this period when he reached her full size of bullying the other cats. She's over it now, but Lucy still doesn't trust her.
Outdoor Cats
I live a rural area, on about 100 acres of land. (The old family farm. Yes, it sucks, but the rent is very very very cheap - free!). Anyway, people love to dump animals here, especially cats. (Which is one reason I think people are scum). So I've got a lot of them. I've tried finding them homes, but shelters always seem to be full. And the county kills them if they can't find them a home after a while.
Rossi - This is actually my cousin's cat. He got dumped here about 20 years ago, when my cousin discovered he was the most annoying cat in the universe. He drools, he sprays, he's not litter box trainer, isn't very bright, and is very obnoxious. He's a tuxedo cat. He's nice is his own way, but can really try your patience. Eats a lot, and is very partial to milk.
Update: As of late May, 2001, he has vanished.
Momma-cat - See above for details on her name. She's a very very sweet cat. But crazy. She loves to roll around in the mud and snow. And she loves to butt heads. She lives in the old barn. She's a calico cat, I think. Has long hair, too. Face looks like an owl. Brown and white. She's not that old, I'd say she was about 1 1/2 years old (not quite fully grown, but mature enough to be pregnant) when I first saw her. Besides Baby-cat, she had one more litter of kittens. I didn't get her fixed in time to prevent it. Curiously, she doesn't seem to be able to purr.
Tubby - Tubby is Momma-cat's daughter from her 2nd litter. She was born Dec 10th, 1998, so she's a bit more than 2 years old right now. She's really pretty - grey , with long hair. Sort of looks like a persian cat, or the one of those fancy feast commercials. She's a bit smallish, but kind of fat/wide. (I called her Tubby, because she was twice the size of her siblings when they were kittens). Despite that, she's a really fast runner, and can really jump high (and loves to). She's really sweet, but a bit shy. Loves to catch mice. She lives in the barn with Momma-cat.
Willie - He showed up about 6-7 months ago. He's really small, and was really scrawy when I found him. He's gotten fat, now. He's an orange cat. Loves to bite, and is very affectionate. Also loves to chase you. He's now apparently living with a neighbor.
