Utility player 2006. Backup/minors 2007. Ryan Garko - Acquired January 30th, 2006 deal for Kevin Mench. Bench/minors 2007. 2007 Analysis - So far I've relied on old 1B (Bagwell, Thomas, Sweeney) far too much. I've been lucky enough to snag young 1B/DH a few times but so far they either implode (Pena) or I trade them away before I really know what they are capable of (Hafner), but hopefully that will change with Morneau and Johnson in 2006. Overall though, not a position of strength throughout Boston's history. August 12th, 2007 - Morneau has become a solid fixture at first and Pena has been revived from the dead. Those two with a healthy influx of players from Ryan Garko, James Loney, and Daric Barton makes this position a huge strength for the forseeable future. |
