+The Dream Life of Angels+

I had a hard time with this film, not because it was in french as I adore the language, but because the storyline was so heavy, dark, and filled with melancholy.  I still haven't decided whether I really like it or not. It is not that the acting was not good, because both actresses were very convincing. What I did not like was the feeling I got from it at the end.  It was a very heavy feeling, the kind where you feel like you should cry but are unable to.

The storyline basically involved the lives of 2 young women, Isa (Elodie Bouchez) and Marie (Natacha Regneir), who meet each other when they are alone and pretty much have no one.

Isa is the more caring one, the one who is emotional and deep. Isa does not give up on life, even when she is homeless, she keeps trying.  Marie on the other hand, cares nothing about life for she is very destructive in her ways.

After Isa moves in with Marie, Marie begins getting involved with men, one in particular who is violent and destructive like herself. Marie begins to become so self-centered and lost in her own world that she pushes Isa away from her. Isa sees it and tries to talk to her but her efforts are useless.

Isa begins to focus her energy on a young girl who is in coma. She somehow connects with this girl who has no one and has lost her mother. It seems resemblent of Isa's zest for life.  She never gives up on life or herself.  Marie on the other hand is nothing like this, she has no idea about who she is or how to live life, and so there is no hope for her.

The film's main message seems to be about choosing to live or die.  Both girls take different paths, one positve and one negative.  The film is about life's choices and how we choose what we become, how we choose the way our lives end up. As the saying goes, Life is what you make it...
